No balls to be found at the Super Bowl

At least not off the field in the offices of NBC. Below is the video thats been rejected.

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- NBC is coming under fire from pro-life advocates for rejecting a television commercial a pro-life group hoped to run during the Super Bowl. The ad shows a beautiful picture of an unborn child during an ultrasound and asks what would happen if President Barack Obama had been a victim of abortion.

The commercial, a popular one in recent weeks within the pro-life movement, is sponsored by the pro-life Catholic group Fidelis and its CatholicVote web site.

After several days of negotiations, an NBC representative in Chicago told the group late yesterday that NBC and the NFL are not interested in advertisements involving "political advocacy or issues."

Brian Burch, president of the pro-life group, told LifeNews.com he is upset that NBC officials rejected what he calls a uplifting and positive pro-life ad.

“There is nothing objectionable in this positive, life-affirming advertisement. We show a beautiful ultrasound, something NBC’s parent company GE has done for years," Burch said.

"We congratulate Barack Obama on becoming the first African-American President. And we simply ask people to imagine the potential of every human life," he told LifeNews.com.

Burch said NBC told Fidelis that they do not allow political or issue advocacy advertisements.

"But that’s not what they told PETA," he said about the network's recent decision to reject an ad from the animal rights group. “There’s no doubt that PETA is an advocacy group. NBC rejected PETA’s ad for another reason altogether.”

According to an email posted on the PETA web site, Victoria Morgan, Vice President of Advertising Standards for Universal, said, "The PETA spot submitted to Advertising Standards depicts a level of sexuality exceeding our standards.”

Morgan also talked about edits that need to be made” in order for the PETA spot to run during the Super Bowl.

Burch responded to that rejection further by saying, “NBC claims it doesn't allow advocacy ads, but that’s not true. They were willing to air an ad by PETA if they would simply tone down the sexual suggestiveness. Our ad is far less provocative, and hardly controversial by comparison."

“The purpose of our new ad is to spread a message of hope about the potential of every human life, including the life of Barack Obama,” Burch told LifeNews.com. “We are now looking at alternative venues to run the ad over the next several weeks.”

The ad aired on BET in Chicago on Inauguration Day and it has become an Internet sensation with over 700,000 views in seven days. The CatholicVote ad was in the top 10 "most viewed" category on YouTube on Inauguration Day last week.

The ad says: “This child’s future is a broken home. He will be abandoned by his father. His single mother will struggle to raise him. Despite the hardships he will endure…this child…will become…the 1st African-American President.”

The television spot, the first of several ads in new campaign launched by CatholicVote.org, concludes with the tag line, “Life: Imagine the Potential.”

The CatholicVote.org web site is a project of the Fidelis Center for Law and Policy.

ACTION: Send your complaints about the rejection of the ad to Victoria Morgan, Vice President, Advertising Standards, NBC Universal, 30 Rockefeller Plaza, 1825 E. New York, NY 10112. Call (212) 664-4267 or fax (212) 664-6366 or email victoria.morgan@nbc.com

With the exception of sexually suggestive material (thank you Janet Jackson, you skank!) I'd have thought anything could be advertised during the Super Bowl. Beer, condoms, Viagra, you name it and it's probably been advertised. Evidently no one at NBC wants to allow dissenting voices against our culture of death to be heard.

This is the one time I regret unplugging the tube, now I can't even threaten to boycott NBC.

What is the definition of "stimulus"?

I was happy as a clam when I heard that family planning funds were being pulled from the package. It seems the celebration was premature.

"Stimulus" Bill Still Includes $335 Million Handout for Condoms, Sex-Ed Programs
By Kathleen Gilbert

WASHINGTON, D.C., January 28, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Just one day after millions of dollars in contraception and abortion handouts in Obama's nearly $1 trillion economic stimulus package were made public and immediately discarded, news has come to light of another $335 million set aside for condoms and sexually explicit "STD prevention" programs.

The Drudge Report headlined the discovery of another chunk of stimulus money headed primarily for promoting sexually-transmitted disease (STD) prevention programs, via the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

In addition to funding graphic sex-education programs and birth-control methods such as condoms, the CDC has come under fire for pouring taxpayer funds into irresponsible and obscene STD prevention programs, which sometimes openly promote promiscuity."

All too often many of CDC's largest grantees were hosting events that produced questionable, if any, results and in some cases promoted activities in direct contradiction with known risk-behaviors for spreading the disease," wrote Sen. Tom Coburn in a 2007 Senate subcommittee report.

Among the concerns raised in the report was the CDC's granting millions of dollars to events featuring prostitutes, transgender beauty contests, and "sex workshops."

In addition, the CDC scheduled a National STD Prevention Conference in 2006 with a panel called, “Are Abstinence-Only-Until-Marriage Programs a Threat to Public Health?” The panel invited speakers claiming abstinence-until-marriage programs were ineffective and are even dangerous.

“It’s obvious that Congressional Democrats are trying to pull the wool over Americans’ eyes as they rush this so-called ‘stimulus’ bill through Congress, while middle-class taxpayers are still finding out about frivolous spending provisions that have been hidden in the bill,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain in a press release regarding the STD-prevention spending.

“It is one thing to believe that we can borrow and spend our way out of recession like Bobby Bright does, but it is quite another to use this trillion dollar spending bill as a vehicle for liberal pet programs,” he said.

Though Washington legislators are still starkly divided along party lines over the bill, it is expected to pass the Democrat-led House today.

Time to get a hold of my Representative again. God bless him but that man is probably getting tired of me. Too bad, no one broke his arm to run for office.

UPDATE: Too late, the damned thing had already passed when I posted this article. NUTS!!

Congress working on reinstating the Mexico City Policy.

Here's the article;

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- On Wednesday, members of the U.S. Senate defeated an amendment sponsored by pro-life members to restore the Mexico City Policy that President Barack Obama rescinded last week. The policy prevents taxpayers from funding groups like Planned Parenthood that promote or perform abortions overseas.

Sen. Mel Martinez, a Republican from Florida, drafted an amendment offered to the SCHIP bill to ask members of the Senate to override Obama's executive order.

The Senate defeated the Martinez amendment on a 60-37 vote with only one Democrat, Sen Bill Nelson of Nebraska, joining most of the chamber's Republicans to support it.

A handful of pro-abortion Republicans joined Senate Democrats in opposing the effort to stop taxpayer money from going overseas to pay for abortions or lobbying foreign countries to reverse their pro-life laws.

The Family Research Council had asked pro-life senators to support the Martinez amendment, saying, "Americans should never be forced to pay for abortions--at home or abroad."

Meanwhile, pro-life Rep. Chris Smith, a New Jersey Republican, and several other pro-life members of the House have introduced legislation to restore the Mexico City Policy.

Congressman Smith is joined by Reps. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI), Bart Stupak (D-MI), and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) in introducing H.R. 708.

“One of President Barrack Obama’s first acts in office was to issue an executive order to allow U.S. taxpayer money to flow to groups that perform abortions or actively work to overturn pro-life laws all over the world,” Smith told LifeNews.com in a statement. "It’s a sad statement about his list of priorities. With Americans facing an economic crisis the likes of which we've not seen in generations, he chooses to enact a policy that will redirect funds to foreign organizations promoting and conducting abortions."

“The Mexico City Policy represents common ground,” Smith said about the abortion debate.

“It has allowed the US to substantially fund international family planning without padding the budgets of radical groups intent on spreading the scourge of abortion. Under Mexico City policy, funding for family planning was not reduced one penny," he explained.

"The President’s decision will shift U.S. funding from true family planning programs to programs that provide and promote abortion with little or no regard for the sovereignty of democratic nations that oppose abortion as a method of family planning," Smith said.

“If President Obama truly seeks to reduce the number of abortions, he must resist funding groups who are driven to export and expand abortion as a method of family planning,” Smith added. “Abortion is never safe for the child and women deserve better than the tragic, irreversible consequences of abortion."

ACTION: 1) Contact your members of the Senate by going to http://www.senate.gov/ and responding to how they voted on using your money to fund pro-abortion groups promoting and performing abortions overseas. See below for the Senate roll call. 2) Contact members of the House by going to http://www.house.gov/ and urging strong support for HR 708 to restore the Mexico City Policy.

Political sobsisters take note...

"It's no use, the fat cats are running the government and people like you or I just have to live with it."

I can't count the number of times I've heard that and wanted to throttle the speaker.

Apathy is always in fashion and that is the number one excuse for doing nothing in response to government screwups. That applies to the entire population.

I've heard it from college grads, I've heard it from grade school dropouts. It gets spoken by those young enough to be my child or old enough to be my parent (the last are getting rarer by the day though).

Can you spell B-U-L-L-S-H-I-T? Sure you can!

Here's a recent example to the contrary from the stimulus package being proposed by B.O. Story here. Seems he might just be another politician with his ear to the ground and finger in the wind.

Other recent examples might include the resistance to "comprehensive immigration reform" that the previous administration experienced when many folk started mailing in bricks & such to Congress. Seems those in Foggy Bottom can listen when We The People start talking loud enough.

Okay, thats enough of a rant from me. Just needed to get that off my chest, apathy is a hotbutton issue here.

An award? For me?

Received this from Adrienne. Thanks a bunch!

"Pocket Obama"

You can't make this shit up. Really. I found it via Always On Watch.

And this is the product description carried on Amazon.com;

Product DescriptionPrinted in a size that easily fits into pocket or purse, this book is an anthology of quotations borrowed from Barack Obama's speeches and writings. POCKET OBAMA serves as a reminder of the amazing power of oratory and the remarkable ability of this man to move people with his words. His superb and captivating oratory style has earned comparisons to John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, and this collection presents words that catapulted his remarkable rise to the American Presidency. Includes themes of democracy, politics, war, terrorism, race, community, jurisprudence, faith, personal responsibility, national identity, and above all, his hoped-for vision of a new America. This book is truly a primer for readers who want to examine the substance of his thought and reflect on the next great chapter in the American story. It is an unofficial requirement for every citizen to own, to read, and to carry this book at all times.

Now I know that last sentence was made tongue-in-cheek as an advertising ploy, but I'm not shitting anyone when I say, IT CREEPS ME OUT!!!

Okay, just where is this cult of personality taking us?

"Dear God, I've learned my lesson and repent of all my sins. Please Lord, lead me back to the wormhole that led me into this Bizarro Universe. I'll be good, honest. I WANNA GO HOOOMMMEE!!! Thank You, Amen.

100-0

That was the score of a recent high school girl's basketball game in this area. Seems the winning coach didn't think his team needed to let up. To add further insult, the school they played is one for special needs kids. If my kid was on the winning team she'd be off the squad as soon as I heard of this.

Here's where it gets bad. LOTS of folk in this area are defending that coach, claiming he merely was doing his job, you don't let up on your opponent in war do ya? Etc. & etc.

A nationally syndicated talk show host (Mike Gallagher) even did his best today to defend the schmuck. Which illustrates why I only listen to Gallagher when the alternative is my kid's Veggie Tales CD, and quite often the Veggie Tales win out. Today I was just tired of Bob the Tomatoe & Larry the Cucumber.

This is the sort of crap that really turns me off about the liberals, the inability to see yourself in your opponent. Thats why so many have spent eight years literally calling for the head of GW Bush on a pike, followed by Dick Cheney and others. Decency seems to go by the wayside if you don't support the liberals.

But is wasn't the libs defending the coach, it was conservatives. So the disease is all over our culture. And I think it sucks.

Look, I'm no fan of "proportionate response" in a war, fight or any REAL conflict. But I'm also a big fan of sportsmanship, not just on the playing field but in day to day living. When you come out on top, give the guy you beat a hand. When you're whipping ass on somebody with no chance of a comeback, ease up. You might be the one on the receiving end next time.

Our culture in general really sucks sometimes. That goes for all of us.

My letter to the President

Seems there is no longer an email address to the White House. Okay, this is going via snail mail to:The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20500.

BTW, I was able to get most of the information from Real Choice;

Dear President Obama,

I am writing as a concerned American citizen about your recent rescinding of the Mexico City Policy. By lifting the ban against abortion funding, you have placed an unknown number of impoverished women of the Third World in jeopardy.

The reasons for this are as follows;

(1) Abortion can cause infection, hemorrhage, bowel injuries, clotting disorders, and other potentially fatal complications. Also, amniotic fluid, fetal tissue, or air can get into the woman's bloodstream and cause an embolism, which can be fatal. Due to the poor quality of health care available, this risk is multiplied for women in economically backward countries.

(2) The degree of risk of suffering any complication depends on the woman's health, the skill of the abortion practitioner, and how far advanced her pregnancy is. Because the lifting of the Mexico City Policy was aimed at Third World countries that don’t have the high quality of health-care facilities more developed nations do, this risk is multiplied.

(3) Statistically, women who have undergone abortions also have a higher risk of suicide than women who have given birth or who have not been pregnant. The increased risk of suicide appears to be directly related to the abortion. Although there is currently some debate as to the accuracy of this claim, it is irresponsible to subject women to this procedure until all questions have been put to rest.

Mr. President, because of these reasons I ask that you reconsider your lifting of the ban against funding for this procedure in undeveloped countries. A more focused assault against poverty in those areas is called for. Our nation has gained enough of a bad reputation over the years without willfully adding to it by the increase of abortion related fatalities. I strongly urge you to reinstate the ban on abortion funding.

Thank you for your service to our nation.

Sincerely,

My name

Let's grow a set...

From the Catholic News Agency-USCCB: "reversal of Mexico City Policy is very disappointing"

Lead sentence in an article in the NY Times-"Vatican officials said Saturday they were disappointed by President Barack Obama's decision to end a ban on federal funding for international groups that perform abortions or provide information on them."

"Disappointing"? "...disappointed"?

WTF!!

When does the Church grow a set, rear back on it's hind legs and start barking like a hungry Doberman after he smells raw meat?

How do they expect anyone to take it seriously when this is the strongest language used? The quilting ministry my wife is in uses stronger language than that when someone forgets the donuts!

We're talking about the resumed funding of abortions, isn't it time for some harsh words? How about some denial of the Eucharist to proabort "Catholic" politicians (hello Nancy Pelosi & Joe Biden). Let's get some fire and brimstone from the pulpits!

Where's Torquemada when we need him?

UPDATE, The beat goes on:Colorado bishops: Obama's reversal of Mexico City Policy "profoundly unfortunate" (from the Catholic News Agency).

What does it say?

What does it say about a President who signs off on funding abortions overseas on Friday afternoon at four o'clock with no press present and the word of his actions aren't officially released until seven that night? Especially since there had been a prolife demonstration in D.C. of 250,000 people the day before.

For some reason I'm reminded of the old insult of placing a man's balls on a razor's edge and they resemble a pair of BB's in the middle of an interstate highway.

Just thinking.

More on the demise of the Mexico City policy.

Additional stuff from Breitbart.com

Obama order ends 'unwarranted' restrictions on abortion

President Barack Obama said the eight-year ban he lifted Friday on US funding to family planning groups abroad that counseled abortion was "unnecessarily broad and unwarranted" and had become too politicized an issue.

Shortly after he signed an executive order cancelling the restrictions, on the third full day of his presidency, Obama said in a statement the ban had "undermined efforts to promote safe and effective voluntary family planning in developing countries.

"For these reasons, it is right for us to rescind this policy and restore critical efforts to protect and empower women and promote global economic development."

The so-called "global gag rule," also known as the Mexico City Policy, cut off US funding to overseas family planning clinics which provide any abortion services whatsoever, from the operation itself to counseling, referrals or post-abortion services.

First introduced by Republican president Ronald Reagan in 1984, it has been repeatedly overturned by Democratic administrations and then reintroduced by the Republicans.

Obama's action overturned the orders of president George W. Bush, who when he came into office in 2001 immediately froze funds to many family planning groups working overseas.

"It is clear that the provisions of the Mexico City Policy are unnecessarily broad and unwarranted under current law, and for the past eight years, they have undermined efforts to promote safe and effective voluntary family planning in developing countries," Obama said in his statement. ("Clear?" What's the proof?)

For too long, he added, the ban "has been used as a political wedge issue, the subject of a back and forth debate that has served only to divide us.

"I have no desire to continue this stale and fruitless debate." (Anyone else's ears pricking up at this one? Is this just for the Mexico City Policy or is it concerning abortion in general?)

He said his cabinet in the coming weeks would launch "a fresh conversation on family planning, working to find areas of common ground to best meet the needs of women and families at home and around the world." ("...at home and around the world...", Not good folks. It mentions "the coming weeks." So much for his stated endorsement of FOCA being just hot air on the campaign trail as many "Catholics" claimed.)

By resuming funding to the UN Population Fund, he said, "the US will be joining 180 other donor nations working collaboratively to reduce poverty, improve the health of women and children, prevent HIV/AIDS and provide family planning assistance to women in 154 countries." (Uganda had a sixty percent drop in HIV/AIDS by preaching abstinence. Bet that won't be funded though.)

Another step into Hell.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has cleared the way for the first trial to see if human embryonic stem cells can treat people safely, a company involved in the controversial research on Friday. (Somewhere Moloch is laughing his ass off.)

Geron Corp, a California biotechnology company, said it plans a clinical trial to try to use the stem cells to regrow nerve tissue in patients with crushed, but not severed, spinal cords.

The issue of human embryonic stem cell research has been a political touchstone, with anti-abortion forces backed by former president George W. Bush arguing the technique involves the destruction of human embryos. Advocates say it could transform medicine. (Yeah, "Do no harm goes out the window". Theres your stinking transformation!)

"For us, it marks the dawn of a new era in medical therapeutics. This approach is one that reaches beyond pills and scalpels to achieve a new level of healing," Geron Chief Executive Dr. Thomas Okarma said in a telephone briefing. (New level=They've succeeded in crashing through the basement.)

Shares of Geron rose more than 53 percent to $8 in mid-morning trading on Nasdaq after touching $8.38.

Geron will recruit eight to 10 recently injured patients and inject them with small numbers of human embryonic stem cells manipulated to become the oligodendrocyte cells that insulate nerves, and that produce compounds to stimulate the growth of nerve cells.

Okarma said there was no political significance to the announcement coming the same week as President Barack Obama took office. Obama has been widely expected to lift restrictions on federal funding and support of human embryonic stem cell research. (Yep, purely coincidental.)

An FDA spokeswoman said, "Before FDA allowed the study to proceed, Geron worked with FDA to address important scientific questions." (Ethics & morality don't need discussion.)

CHEAP AND EASY

Okarma said the treatment should eventually become cheap and easy to mass produce because the cells can be grown in vats. He believes the cells may be useful for other diseases such as multiple sclerosis, in which nerve cells are stripped of their insulating sheaths, and perhaps strokes.

Financial analysts celebrated. Stephen Brozak and Daniel Mallin of WBB Securities LLC said it could "as important to drug therapy as the discovery of ... penicillin." (Moldy bread is equivalent to human life? Good grief!)

Dr. Robert Lanza of the rival Massachusetts-based Advanced Cell Technology, which is also seeking to create therapies using human embryonic stem cells, called the decision a "huge advance for the entire field". This sends a message that we're ready at last to start helping people," he said.

Stem cells are the body's master cells, giving rise to all the tissues, organs and blood. Embryonic stem cells are considered the most powerful kinds of stem cells, as they have the potential to give rise to any type of tissue. (And so far there have been no, zero, zip, successful applications of embryonic cells.)

Researchers are also trying to find ways to use so-called adult stem cells, taken from bone marrow and elsewhere in the body, and have learned how to transform ordinary skin cells into stem-like cells. But scientists argue that no one knows which route will work so all avenues must be pursued. (My ass!)

The Phase I trial will be designed to show that patients do not develop tumors, or damage to their nervous systems. But Okarma believes it will also indicate whether the stem cells might repair the damaged spinal cords.

"These are living cells that will divide, make more of themselves and migrate throughout the lesion after injection," he said.

While the patients will get low doses of immune-suppressing drugs for the first two months,

Okarma is confident the cells will escape immune system recognition and patients will not have to endure the treatments that organ and tissue transplant recipients usually do. Treatment on the first patient should begin this summer.

Okarma said the company has a strong balance sheet, free of debt, and "ample to fund the company through this trial". (God have mercy on us.)

I know this is privately funded and was completely legal under Bush. He only banned government funding of this. Got it.

But coupled with the story that follows below this one it just looks like we're merrily going to Hell on an express elevator.

Merde!

WASHINGTON, Jan 23 (Reuters) - President Barack Obama on Friday lifted restrictions on U.S. government funding for groups that provide abortion services or counseling abroad, reversing a policy of his Republican predecessor George W. Bush, a spokesman said.

The Democratic president's decision was a victory for advocates of abortion rights on an issue that in recent years has become a tit-for-tat policy change each time the White House shifts from one party to the other.

When the ban was in place, no U.S. government funding for family planning services could be given to clinics or groups that offer abortion services or counseling in other countries even if the funds for those activities come from non-U.S. government sources.

Obama signed an executive order lifting the restrictions on Friday, a White House spokesman said.

It has been called the Mexico City Policy because it was unveiled at a United Nations conference there in 1984 and became one of the centerpiece social policies of the conservative administration of former President Ronald Reagan, a Republican.

Critics call it the "gag rule" because it also cuts funds to groups that advocate or lobby for the lifting of abortion restrictions, so they say it infringes on free speech. They also say it has reduced healthcare for some of the world's poorest women.

Former President Bill Clinton, a Democrat, rescinded the rule when he took office in January 1993 and his successor, Republican George W. Bush, reinstated it in January 2001.
Planned Parenthood, a health care provider and advocacy group for abortion rights, welcomed the move.

"With the stroke of a pen, President Obama has lifted the stranglehold on women's health across the globe," Cecile Richards, the group's president, said in a statement.

"No longer will health care providers be forced to choose between receiving family planning funding and restricting the health care services they provide to women."

CRITICS ON BOTH SIDES

When he reinstated the policy after the Clinton administration, Bush said taxpayer funds should not be used to pay for or advocate abortions.

Anti-abortion activists agreed with Bush and criticized the move to lift the ban on funding.

"When we wake up every morning to a deepening financial crisis, it is an insult to the American people to bail out the abortion industry," said Charmaine Yoest, president of Americans United for Life.

"Planned Parenthood is a billion-dollar company and they do not need additional resources to burden the American taxpayer," she added.

U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell also expressed disapproval. "I have long supported the Mexico City Policy and believe this administration's decision to be counter to our nation's interests," he said in a statement.

The United States spends more than $400 million on overseas family planning assistance each year.

Critics of the funding ban say the anti-abortion restrictions have resulted in huge drops for funding worldwide to organizations that provide family-planning services and basic healthcare.

They say this means many women are deprived of contraception and other health services in poor countries, leading to back-alley abortions and deaths.

The Center for Reproductive Rights says, for example, that in Ethiopia and Lesotho, some nongovernmental organizations are no longer able to offer comprehensive and integrated healthcare services to patients suffering from HIV/AIDS.

Abortion rights opponents and groups who support the Mexico City Policy dispute the view that it has led to an increase of illegal abortions or deaths overseas.

Unlike Clinton and Bush, Obama did not act on the rule on the Jan. 22 anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 Supreme Court ruling that made abortions legal throughout the United States.

Say, would the Catholics who voted for B.O. and said he'd work to bring about fewer abortions explain this one to me? I'm confused as hell, guess it's because I don't appreciate the nuance and complexity of things.
Or maybe I just can't help seeing the emperor is naked and ugly as sin to boot.

"These are frank, even ungracious, words..."

Found this via The Anchoress. It's commentary by a Brit, not some right wing loon out of flyover country here in the States.

Barack Obama inauguration: this Emperor has no clothes, it will all end in tears

This will end in tears. The Obama hysteria is not merely embarrassing to witness, it is itself contributory to the scale of the disaster that is coming. What we are experiencing, in the deepening days of a global depression, is the desperate suspension of disbelief by people of intelligence - la trahison des clercs - in a pathetic effort to hypnotise themselves into the delusion that it will be all right on the night. It will not be all right.

We have been here before. In the spring of 1997, to be precise, when a charismatic, young prime minister entered Downing Street, cheered by children bussed in for the occasion waving plastic Union Jacks. A very few of us at that time incurred searing reproaches for denouncing the Great Charlatan (as I have always denominated Tony Blair) and dissenting from the public hysteria. Three times a deluded Britain elected that transparent fraud. Yesterday, when national bankruptcy became a formal reality, we reaped the bitter harvest of the Blair/Brown imposture.

The burnt child, contrary to conventional wisdom, does not fear the fire. After the Blair experience there is no excuse for anybody in Britain falling for Obama. Yet today, in this country, even some of those who remained sane during the emotional spasm of the Diana aberration are pumping the air for Princess Barack. At a time of gross economic and geopolitical instability throughout the Western world, this is beyond irresponsibility.

To anyone who kept his head, the string of Christmas cracker mottoes booming through the public address system on Washington's National Mall can only excite scepticism. It is crucial to recall the reality that lies behind the rhetoric. Denouncing "those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents" comes ill from a man whose flagship legislation, the Freedom of Choice Act, will impose abortion, including partial-birth abortion, on every state in the Union. It seems the era of Hope is to be inaugurated with a slaughter of the innocents.

Obama's American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan is like one of those toxic packages traded by bankers: it camouflages many unaffordable gifts to his client state. With a federal deficit already at $1.2 trillion, Obama wants to squander $825 billion (which will undoubtedly mushroom to more than $1 trillion) on creating 600,000 more government jobs and a further 459,000 in "green energy" (useless wind turbines and other Heath-Robinson contraptions favoured by Beltway environmentalists).

It is frightening to think there is a real possibility that the entire world economy could go into complete meltdown and famine kill millions. Yet Western - and British - commentators are cocooned in a warm comfort zone of infatuation with America's answer to Neil Kinnock. We should be long past applauding politicians of any hue: they got us into this mess. The best deserve a probationary opportunity to prove themselves, the worst should be in jail.

It is questionable whether the present political system can survive the coming crisis. Whatever the solution, teenage swooning sentimentality over a celebrity cult has no part in it. The most powerful nation on earth is confronting its worst economic crisis under the leadership of its most extremely liberal politician, who has virtually no experience of federal politics. That is not an opportunity but a catastrophe.

These are frank, even ungracious, words: they have the one merit that, unlike almost everything else written today about Obama, they will not require to be eaten in the future.

So when those of us with doubts stand accused of partisan attacks on "The One", it helps to realize others outside this nation share our views.

This just in from Washington, D.C.

With thanks to Fr. Richtsteig @ Orthometer.

Christian life under Islam.

Here's a post I lifted from Pajamas Media. Tell me again about religious freedom under Islam, this bishop is fairly low key but enough gets through to understand the truth is different than what apologists for the "religion" of peace might say.

An Interview with the Bishop of Arabia

The Swiss-born Paul Hinder is the Catholic Church’s bishop of Arabia. Pierre Heumann of the Swiss weekly Die Weltwoche spoke with him recently on “inter-religious dialogue,” the political tendency of Islam, and the difficulties confronted by practicing Christians in Arab countries. The interview appears here in English.
John Rosenthal
(Translator)
***
Bishop Hinder, next year Switzerland will be deciding whether minarets should be permitted in the country. How would you advise Swiss voters to vote?
Every public building wants to stand out. That’s normal and legitimate.

Minarets are supposed to mark the presence of Muslims in Switzerland. Is a political claim to power also connected to this symbolism?

I cannot rule out the possibility. But I would answer with another question: why should the minaret of a mosque not be visible? On the other hand, a 200-meter-high minaret would certainly be an affront and would disrupt the city’s appearance. I would say that this has little to do with religious freedom.

The disruption would be less severe than in the case of the building of the glass skyscraper of a bank.

But the bank is also a sort of religion. (Smiles) What would interest me more than the building of minarets is what is preached inside the mosque, in what language the faithful are addressed, and how the imams have been trained.

About what in particular would you be concerned …

A completely separate subculture could evolve, which would have explosive potential. The tower is not necessarily the issue …

… in the last analysis a matter for building inspectors?

Rather the culture that is being practiced next to the tower is the issue. It is no offense against freedom of religion if one poses the basic demand that Muslims who live in a Western country recognize fundamental rights and the constitution. In this regard, there is certainly a lot of room for improvement.

In the Arab countries for which you are responsible as bishop, church towers are taboo.

In Qatar recently, we were permitted to build a church large enough to accommodate 2,700 of the faithful. There is not a church that big in all of Switzerland. But it is true that in the agreement with the government it is clearly stated that no religious symbols should be visible from the exterior. It is only in the interior that Christian symbols are tolerated. If I had not accepted this condition, my request for the building permit would have been rejected. I did not even apply for the permission to build a church tower.

Are you permitted to be seen in the street in your vestments?

We voluntarily practice a certain degree of discretion, in order not to provoke anyone. But in most of the countries of the [Arabian] Peninsula, it is not a problem to wear the clothing of a church official.

Are Christians persecuted in your region?

In my territory, there are no indigenous Christians or surviving minorities from pre-Islamic times like in Iraq. As far as foreign Christians are concerned, there is not any active persecution. There are, however, practices that could certainly be construed as having the character of persecution.

What are you thinking of?

In my diocese, a Christian could hardly ever become a citizen. The only exception is Bahrain. If you practice any religion other than Islam, this frequently results in discrimination in one’s profession.

Despite all the difficulties, you militate for inter-religious dialogue.

Of course. Is there any alternative? But the way is long and difficult and also fragile. The point of inter-religious dialogue is not to get the adherent of another religion to accept our position. But he should learn to accept my belief, just as I accept his, without him having to convert to Christianity himself. In the meanwhile, a learning process has begun in this regard.

You say that it is a long process.

The problems already turn up just with basic concepts. For example, when a Muslim speaks of religious freedom, what he means is the right of a Christian woman to marry a Muslim man and to remain a Christian thereafter. Now, part of dialogue is having the courage to pose hard questions.

Which questions?

For example, what happens as regards the children of a mixed couple?

According to Islamic law, they are automatically Muslims.

Yes. And we also have to ask how matters stand as regards a Christian man who marries a Muslim woman. He also automatically becomes a Muslim. He is not even asked if this is what he wants. It would be nonsensical to expect that in the end the two religions would fuse into one. But I believe that a certain change of orientation is possible on a practical level.

What do you have in mind?

Inter-religious dialogue has to be subdivided into specific tasks. For example, the respective understanding of history of the two sides needs urgently to be subject to critical examination. We have to ask what is being taught in the schools and schoolbooks about the other religion. From what I have heard, abstruse things are related about Christianity. But it is progress at least, when a young Muslim learns that he does not have to kill me just because I think differently than he does and have different beliefs.

Are you allowed to proselytize?

For a Muslim, it goes without saying that he should make the message of his faith understandable to other people. I would like to be able to do the same for my religion. Unfortunately, that is not possible in the Arab countries.

What would be the consequence if you proselytized nonetheless?

I assume I would have to leave the country. But conversions from Islam to Christianity are in any case illusory. We strongly advise native residents against converting.

Why?

The convert would not be able to practice his faith. He could not go to church. His family and the people in his environment would not allow it. If he insists, nonetheless, on converting to Christianity, the only option that remains is to emigrate.

Are there forced conversions to Islam?

Prisoners who have memorized the Koran or even converted to Islam can expect to receive reductions in their prison time or even be released. That is, of course, a strong incentive. On the other hand, I do not know of any Western country in which the punishment of a Muslim is reduced if he gets baptized.

Your “clientele” consists of foreign workers who live for the most part in poor conditions in work camps: Catholics from the Philippines or India or Sri Lanka. Are you allowed to hold mass in these camps?

Officially, I am not allowed, even if it is occasionally tolerated. In most Arab countries, we are
only permitted to hold mass in places that have been put at our disposition by the government. It has become standard practice to propose camps, mosques, athletic fields, and cinemas. But there are no churches or temples, even though non-Muslims are often the majority in the camps. For many foreign workers, that is a problem, since most do not have enough money to be able to afford transportation to a service elsewhere. For me it is incomprehensible that precisely those who place so much emphasis on faith in God, and who criticize the West for becoming unreligious, render it difficult for others to hold religious services.

Can you provide support to workers in the camps who work for minimum wage: for example, be sponsoring soup kitchens?

There are others who are responsible for that. We can only help at a very private level.

Saudi Arabia is particularly strict. Islam is the only religion permitted, but there are well over a million Christians who live there.

It is true that normal Church activities are not possible there. If a Christian has a bible in the house, he no longer is subject to punishment. But if someone brings in a whole shipment of bibles, then that creates problems. But the rosary or wearing a cross under one’s clothing is okay. Needless to say, I cannot travel around freely as a bishop. But that does not mean that no contacts or visits are possible.

You once said in an interview that there are tendencies in Islam to strive for global power. Thus, for example, Saudi Arabia built numerous mosques in Bosnia after the war despite the existence of other more pressing problems. Does dialogue still make sense under these conditions?

The distinction between proselytism and political goals is not so simple in Islam.

In Islam, the congruence between religion and politics is indeed part of the system.

That could be debated. But in light of history, one can say unambiguously that the religious message and its political realization have been congruent. And this is still the case today. To that degree, it is to be expected that the political tendency is dominant in Islam. This can have consequences where Muslims come to represent a majority of the population. I am not one of those who fears that Europe could be overrun by Muslims. But I am also not so naïve that I would not see the danger.

What do you fear then?

For example, a kind of gradual hollowing out of human rights — which is a danger that does not only come from Muslims, however. We need to establish clear conditions. If Western, pluralistic democracy is important to us, then we have to insist that the radical wing of Islam purifies itself and clearly recognizes the principles of democracy and the rule of law. We may also be permitted to expect leading Muslims to address this issue more clearly than they have up to now.

Remembering Soylent Green.

Remember the movie, "Soylent Green"? It was an underway flick I saw on my first boat. Anyone familiar with "hacker cards" understands me when I say they would get double punched for this turkey.

For those ignorant of the term, underway movies on a sub were the worst you might find. I'm. Not. Kidding. We're talking so bad that no amount of T&A would redeem them even for a crew of testosterone charged twenty-somethings who had been at sea for a month or two.

So somewhere along the way, a crewmember on a boat started a contest whereby the contestants were issued cards to be punched after viewing especially bad movies. The really bad ones got double/triple punched. He who had the most punch marks on his card at the end of the run was the winner. I really don't know what the prize was, probably a gallon-sized bottle of Jack Black to help wash away the memories.

Thus was born the concept of hacker cards. My own most notable experience? That would have been watching all three of the "Toxic Avenger" flicks the same night. I only got one punch per flick. Bummer.

But let's get back to that masterpiece of cinematic excellence, "Soylent Green".

First let me say that Charlton Heston must have really needed the money. No two ways about it.

The most disturbing thing to me about the movie was it's casual acceptance of euthanasia, the shocker was supposed to be what happened to the bodies afterwards. I never really got that one, it seemed assbackwards to me. Part of being a cultural Neanderthal.

So now it appears the acceptance of suicide is being subtly forced upon the medical profession. Here's the story.

Even before turning back to religion some years ago I was against this crap. It's just too wide open for abuse. But as we've seen with the hysterically hyperventilating proponents of the culture of death , freedom of choice in this area only exists if you're choosing suicide. No prolife options allowed.

Once again, life is imitating "art" (God, that movie really stunk!!).

Reaping what ye sow...

Well, these dumbasses are wanting to turn the clock back to the seventh century. Guess they didn't know it's a package deal.

Now just watch some nitwit claim it's a CIA "blackbox operation" initiated by G.W. Bush. It will be followed by calls for investigations of atrocities committed by the USA.

Now it begins...

Seems our new Chief Executive won't waste any time at all appeasing the minions of Moloch. Story here.

The active promotion of homosexuality.

For those who don't believe homosexuality is being actively promoted, the following story applies;

VIRGINIA, January 14, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Lisa Miller, an ex-lesbian fighting to prevent her former partner from having access to her six year old daughter, has been told by a Virginia court that her child will be taken from her by force, if necessary.

Judge William Sharp of the Shenandoah County Domestic Relations District Court, ordered Lisa Miller, 40, to allow her former lesbian partner to have a three day unsupervised visit with her daughter, Isabella, Miller said in an email sent on January 6th to friends and supporters.

Sharp also ruled that Vermont's civil union laws must be upheld in Virginia, despite a state law that expressly forbids the recognition of same-sex unions of any kind, Miller stated.

"At this point, the Virginia Marriage laws mean nothing," wrote Miller. "Today, the homosexual agenda just marched through our back door." (Bit of a double entendre there.)

Lisa Miller conceived Isabella using artificial insemination during a lesbian relationship with Janet Jenkins, 44, in 2002. Miller and Jenkins were in a "civil union" at the time, initiated in the state of Vermont. Miller later repudiated lesbianism when she returned to her former faith in Jesus Christ.

Although Vermont has no law assigning parenthood to the spouse of a woman impregnated through artificial insemination, a Vermont judge has assigned parental rights to Jenkins. Miller says that Isabella has told her that she was forced to bathe naked with Jenkins during previous unsupervised visits, and has spoken of suicide after returning from such visits.

"...was forced to bath naked with Jenkins during previous unsupervised visits..." Hey folks, any guesses as to what would happen if a heterosexual man forced his daughter to do the same during unsupervised visits? When I lived in Connecticut I met a man who lost all visitation rights with his girl until allegations of impropriety could be verified. BAM!! No ifs, ands, buts, or maybes. The poor guy didn't see his daughter. Period.

Why would it be any different when the gay noncustodial parent is known to be attracted to members of the same gender as the child? Hell, thats the reason the Boy Scouts don't want gay Scoutmasters. Think of putting hetero men in charge of Girl Scout troops, kinda sleazy.

But what really caught my eye on this post was a story related to it. This one here that details how she was convinced she must be lesbian.

Now how could someone NOT know they were attracted to members of the same sex? Why would it be necessary for a shrink to point this out? I don't get it. I really don't. To me you know if you're light in the loafers or not. Why would you need someone to TELL you that?

Not too long ago homosexuality was considered a mental/emotional disorder. Once the gay lobby got going that went away and we started being taught to accept it as just another life style. Now it's getting taught in schools and may soon be openly embraced by the military. Don't speak out against it either, you'll be labeled a homophobe and cast into the outer darkness. Just look at whats happening in California to the supporters of Prop. 8, now theres a Google map allowing anyone to find the homes and workplaces of them. Check this out for details.

I don't even want to talk about Marvel Comics coming out with a gay superhero. Really. Enough is enough.

So one way or another we're having acceptance of homosexuality rammed down our throats. As this story proves, failure to get along with your spouse can be a green light for convincing you you're gay. How soon will resistance to a diagnosis of that sort constitute a failure to cooperate with any shrinks assigned to you? Our children are already being softened up, the Thought Police are now infiltrating the school systems as proven by this story and a few others I've posted on recently.

Some years down the road when our children are propositioned by their gay peers and have to defend themselves against charges of "homophobia" because they won't at least "try it, you might like it", what will we be able to do then? Look at how sexual mores have changed just in the last few decades to get a glimpse of the future. It's now accepted as "normal" for teenagers to have sex way before they leave high school, will it one day be just as "normal" for them to have had a homosexual relationship by that time? How many young folk will be sent to a shrink and encouraged to remedy their deprived libidos?

Where the hell do we go from here?

R.I.P.

Please pray for the peaceful repose of the souls of those who served our nation and the coalition with honor. Remember also those who mourn their loss.

Shape of things to come, hell they're already here!

Fr. Richsteig has recently posted about the reaction to his comments in the local press regarding B.O. The story is here.

So here's a man of the cloth in Utah who gives what definetly doesn't qualify as a hate-filled screed and he gets harassed by the moonbats. What does this mean for the rest of us who don't meekly keep mum except to join the "Amen" chorus at the proper time?

No, I don't think it's a sign of some vast widespread conspiracy. I think it spontaneous and I believe we'll see more of this nonsense as time goes on. Civility in political disagreements is dying fast and it's the leftist moonbats that are killing it most enthusiastically.

Been a while since I was at the range, think I'll spend some time there in the near future.

It's gonna be a LONG four years (and that's an optimistic estimate).

Getting the place "company clean"

"Company clean" was a concept the War Department introduced me to when we met. Evidently it's the type of cleaning where you jump backwards through hoops to insure anyone walking in wearing white gloves will be impressed. I'd never done it, always felt if what I lived with wasn't good enough I'll pass out the cleaning gear to anyone wanting to help. BTW, when I was single my apartment was spotless. I'm not THAT much of a slob.

Anyway, looks like the good folks down in D.C. are getting into the "company clean" mindset, here is the story.

My only question would be where will all the politicians be hanging out? If you really want to crack down on whoring...

Tagged!

Cookie tagged me to post seven things about me. Okey-dokey, here goes;

1) I've a tattoo on my right forearm of the submarine service insignia, its two dolphins with a diesel boat conning tower between 'em. It took ten years for me to finally decide to get that, I wanted to be sure I'd never regret the sucker. That was back in 1979, no regrets so far.

2) I thought seriously about a second tattoo, Cleavon Little supposedly had one like what I had in mind. It was a dotted line around his neck with "Cut here" above the line. Maybe thats why he wore his collar buttoned more often than not. After a few years I decided against it.

3) When I was much younger my life's ambition was to become a priest. Then I discovered girls.

4) Upon entering the Navy I was slated to go into the nuclear power program. During my "A" school (tech school) the "nukes" were seperated from the "non nukes" after five weeks. For the next week I watched the non nukes take twenty minute breaks, we were limited to five at best. Every night non nukes went out to party, we stuck around to crack the books. In addition, our instructors regaled us with stories of how difficult nuke school and prototype were. Being naturally lazy in these things, I decided to flunk out. So to answer the multiple question test at the end of that week I just used my wristwatch, "A" was between 1-15 seconds, "B" between 16 & 30, etc.

When I handed in my test (after five whole minutes) the instructor asked me WTF I was doing. "Failing the test and getting out of the nuke power program, sir" was the answer met by "It isn't that easy sailor." I set a record for the lowest score for that week. The following week I was a non nuke. Like I said, I'm basically lazy. Sue me. Best damned decision of my entire career.

5) When I was stationed in Italy I tried learning a few phrases of Italian the first few weeks. Thought I had it down pat until I walked into a pizzeria and ordered a pizza with mushrooms. Turns out I told the owner to go have sexual relations with his pizza. As he reached for the meat cleaver, in broken English he asked if I wanted a pizza with mushrooms. That probably saved me from being chased down the street. After that I used a Berlitz book of phrases. Ooops.

6) When my second marriage was breaking up, some guy in Newton, CT. put his wife through a woodchipper. Here's the story. I was also getting sober at the time. A local bar just off the sub base was selling "T" shirts with the picture of a woodchipper and the caption, "Divorce, Connecticut style" underneath. I really wanted one of those shirts! But staying off the sauce was more important, so I passed. It's just as well. The first few dates I had after that divorce always led to a conversation about the case (it was pretty famous and the first of two trials was held right across the river from the base). Anyway, it seemed everytime some honey I was dating brought the topic up and started to piss and moan about "that poor woman, what an awful man she married...", my agreement between whoops of laughter didn't sound too sincere. Ruined a few dates for me.

7) During that same time period I had bought a mirror with the following printed beneath it, "If you love something set it free. If it comes back, it's yours. If it doesn't, HUNT IT DOWN AND KILL IT!"

Nope, I don't get resentful about things. Not at all. But I have learned the best revenge is to live a good life and not think about the fools who wanted to screw you over. Just my opinion.

So let's see. I'll tag the Ignorant Redneck and Mighty Mom for this one.

Gays in the military

"Don't ask, don't tell" should never have happened.

I've written on this some time ago, now it looks like B.O. is going to repeal it. Big mistake, let it die a quiet death.

By publicly repealing it the green light will apparently be given for openly homosexual applicants to the military. In our lawsuit crazed culture you can bet there'll be some activists just drooling at the thought of bringing the military to court for infringing on someone's "right" to serve.

Being what it is, the military will bend over backwards to appear impartial and in conformance with our society's laws. So a Liberace clone could swish into the local recruiting office with a feathered boa on his shoulders, sign up and no one would blink.

Once our gay blade gets into the service you can bet his mere presence is going to offend a lot of otherwise dedicated soldiers/sailors/marines/airmen.

Here's a little secret about the armed forces; they don't want ANYONE who can't function as an anonymous member of the team. Period. It's why Rambo is a purely fictitious character, he'd never make it for any real length of time in any one of our armed services. Speaking as a former senior enlisted man I can say no amount of talent makes up for some asshole wanting to hog the limelight. The system is designed to weed out prima donnas of any sort and a good thing too. When the platoon is ordered to storm uphill against a machine gun it doesn't help ANYONE to have "Rambo" pipe up with his point of view and alternate plan. Anyone who has read "The Caine Mutiny" knows exactly the point I'm making. Want the center stage? Go join the circus and be a clown. The military thrives on the compliance and conformance of it's members in ALL areas.

Gays have been in the military before "don't ask, don't tell". If they would fit in and do their damned job just like anyone else no one really gave a rip who they wanted to sleep with. Being a member of the team was a hell of a lot more important.

So when "Swishy" gets posted to a command and the higher ups that want to save their careers no matter what insist on accomodating him, that roar you hear will be the vacuum left by a lot of career minded personnel hitting the highway. Not so much about who he might come on to, but about having to deal with a flamboyant nonconforming twit that causes a lot of dissension with his attitude.

Our military will become more of a workfare program than anything else, we'll be like the Dutch.
And that isn't a compliment.

Parents (and everyone else), take notes on this one...

There was a story last month about a New Jersey kid who couldn't get a birthday cake with his name on it. Seems his parents were a wee bit twisted in selecting monikers for the children. Story here.

I think they're perverted but no one even blinks when some leftie names their kid "Che" or "Fidel". "Malcom X" isn't unknown amongst blacks and Hollyweird stars are known for naming their kids "Apple" (Gwyneth Paltrow), "Kal-el" (Nicholas Cage), "Free" (Barbara Hershey), etc.

So while I figured it was distasteful it could have been worse. Names like "Benedict Arnold", "Judas Iscariot" come to mind.

Evidently the state of New Jersey isn't so broadminded. They've taken the kids from the parents. Story here.

Now it's entirely possible there are legitimate grounds for grabbing the tykes. But if the media stories aren't what initially got the attention of state pencil pushers, I'll eat this keyboard.

The local police chief admitted there was no history of complaints against the family, THAT is pretty significant IMHO. Hell, I've known adults who came from homes that Child Protective Services (CPS) visited on a regular basis and THEIR parents never had to give the kids up. That was in Connecticut, where busybody liberals run amok, not down here in Texas where we're all (supposedly) gaptoothed, splayfooted results of incestuous relationships (that includes the Yankee immigrants down here.)

Maybe I'm unique, but if CPS ever put my ass under a microscope I'm sure they'd be able to justify whatever they wanted. Just a few examples follow. Recovering drunk? Can't trust 'em, they're notorious for falling off the wagon. Ex-military? Probably physically abusive with no hope of redemption. Married to a much younger woman? Guy undoubtedly has a lot of Svengali-like tendencies and takes 'em out on this poor, naive young waif he conned into marriage (Hey War Department, that'd be YOU!!).

Big Brother in action. Another example of political correctness run amok. Parents, consider yourselves warned.

I've posted before on what I believe will be the new persecution of Christians, especially prolifers (and I DON'T believe you're a Christian of any stripe unless you're prolife!). We can't be fed to lions anymore, PETA would object. Nero's habit of turning Christians into streetlights by putting 'em on a pole and setting the thing on fire won't work, the EPA would stop it.

But the stupid jokes aside, persecution can take the form of breaking up your family, as seen in this story. It can also take other forms, IRS audits come to mind.

Most people are familiar with variations of this;

"In Germany, they came first for the Communists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist;
And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist;
And then they came for the Jews, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew;
And then . . . they came for me . . . And by that time there was no one left to speak up
."

It pays to remember that at the time of this poem, Communists, trade unionists, Jews, etc. were all unpopular "outsiders". Kind of what we would consider a guy who names his kid "Adolf Hitler".

In coming days we'd ALL better be ready to speak up for each other, regardless of popularity.

Consider the shit to be in the fan.

When I'm wrong, I'm wrong. Period.

"You have to become more like Christ in your behavior."

That was the admonition given me some time ago by a priest who recommended it as an ongoing act of penance. It's tough, ask the War Department how many times in one week I'll apologize for some over the top comment I make to her.

But DAMN! How come I keep running into people like him that call me on my shit?

The other day I posted about a woman who couldn't fit into a conventional MRI machine. Had a lot of fun with it, dragged out an old joke about Navy wives, etc.

Then a commenter unloaded on me.

Normally that just flows off me like water off a duck's back. Thick skin? I've got a hide that a rhino would envy. No problemo. 22 years in the sub force will do it.

But she was right. The post was needlessly insensitive. Theres presently enough evil in the world for me to take aim at with my sarcasm, I don't need to hit good folks as collateral damage when I let loose with my humor.

Mother Darla, you were right. I've removed the post. God isn't going to have us weigh in at the Pearly Gates. I should concentrate on more deserving targets with my barbs.

I'll be thinking about that priest for the next few days now. Him and one other.

Life sure was simpler when I was just a recovering drunk with no religious preference.

Prolife or not, this is flat wrong.

IMHO this is a good way to lose sympathy for the prolife cause. Much outrage is often expressed by the outlandish behavior of gays when they parade through public streets. A good portion of the behavior is definetly NOT ready for prime time but it's justified because it "gets the message across". That is pure bullshit and anyone using that justification needs a checkup from the neckup. So when something like the incident that generated the initial court case in this story happens, I get disgusted that we prolifers are capable of the same mindset.

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A lawsuit filed by pro-life advocates in California will not get a Supreme Court review after the high court declined to add it to its busy docket. The court denied a request to review a Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals decision that upheld the constitutional rights of pro-life activists.

The Supreme Court’s decision, which came without comment (as is typical), cements a victory for the Thomas More Law Center and the pro-life cause.

According to the pro-life law firm, pro-life advocates had attempted to display abortion signs on the public streets adjacent to the Dodson Middle School in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. (This is where I start getting disgusted.) Two of the pro-life people involved were eventually arrested.

School officials and the LA County Sheriff’s Department claimed the signs were “disruptive” and in violation of a California penal statute.

Thomas More filed suit on behalf of the pro-life advocates and the case made its way to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, which reversed a lower court decision and held that pro-life activists had a constitutional right to free speech regardless of its location at the time.

Robert Muise, trial counsel for the pro-life law firm told LifeNews.com that the Supreme Court's decision not to consider overturning the appeals court decision is a victory for pro-life people engaging in grassroots activism.

"This is a tremendous victory for the First Amendment and the pro-life movement," he told LifeNews.com. "The Supreme Court’s decision leaves the Ninth Circuit’s ruling undisturbed."
Doing so ensures "there is no double standard for pro-life speech and affirming the fundamental principle of the First Amendment that government officials cannot prohibit silent, peaceful, non-obstructive, political speech on the public streets simply because certain listeners or viewers find the speech offensive," Muise said.

The 9th Circuit's opinion was written by Judge Harry Pregerson, who Muise says is considered by many to be one of the most liberal judges on that court.

He wrote in the ruling that "the government cannot silence messages simply because they cause discomfort, fear, or even anger.”

The suit stems from a March 24, 2003, incident which saw school officials call the Los Angeles County sheriff's department. Art Roberts, the assistant principal of Dodson Middle, joined the officers in telling the pro-life advocates that they would have to leave the area adjoining the school.

A federal district court dismissed the suit but the appeals court revived it and the defendants appealed the appellate court's decision to the Supreme Court.

Okay, I can understand the viewpoint that says more people need to actually see what abortion entails. Got it. Wholeheartedly agree with it.

But this is shit. I just think of how my oldest son (now 24) would have handled something like this. I also think of how I'd react to it. You don't park your signs near a middle school. Period. My fellow prolifers can scream like the Temptations that I'm selling out here.

GET. STUFFED.

I can understand those signs being seen near a college campus. I'll even go for a high school. But there is a real need to exercise discretion here and indiscriminately flaunting them anywhere in public is a sure way to make enemies who might have been allies.

Hey, we're supposed to be the good guys in this. That means we know the ends DOES NOT justify the means. Ever. Good fruit doesn't come from bad seed.

So let's ditch "the ends justifies the means" attitude, use some common sense and exercise basic decency.

So how many women will suffer due to this?

BOSTON (Reuters) - A U.S. civil liberties group sued the federal government Monday, charging it violated the Constitution by contracting a Roman Catholic entity to help victims of human trafficking. (Who else would be contracted, Planned Parenthood? Maybe the National Organization for Women (NOW)? How about the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL)? Yeah, fat chance.)

The American Civil Liberties Union said the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops was imposing its beliefs on victims of human trafficking by not allowing federal grant money to be used for contraception or abortion. (It's called following religious beliefs, stupid. That would be the prime motivation for getting involved with these victims in the first place. Know any secular organizations willing to shoulder the load?)

When the bishops applied for the contracts, they said they would not work with subcontractors who provided abortion services or contraceptives, such as condoms, which conflict with Catholic teachings, according to the ACLU.

The suit filed in U.S. District Court in Boston said the Department of Health and Human Services violated the separation of church and state by giving the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops $6 million in grants from 2006 through 2008. (How many victims were helped by this "heinous" act of utilizing a religious organization? Did they do any research into that?)

Many women victims of human trafficking are forced to work as prostitutes, and face a high risk of assault and rape, the ACLU said in court papers. (Yep, and cutting off funding for a group that effectively aid them is SO sensible! Or not.)

The Department of Health and Human Services permitted the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops "to impose its own religiously based substantive restrictions on the use of grant funds," the ACLU argued. (Yeah, this was done regarding subcontractors to the USCCB! The victims still received help! Doesn't anyone get that?)

The suit asks the court to stop the department from allowing its grants being spent in a way that is restricted by religious beliefs. (Heaven forbid! Wait, can't say the "H" word can I? Sorry.)

Sister Mary Ann Walsh of the bishops' conference said the $6 million figure cited in the suit was the full amount authorized. But "far less" money had been appropriated, she said without giving a figure. (Yep, no dummy there. Cite a figure and the ACLU will demand payback. Let the bastards work for it! Go sister, go!)

"The problem of trafficking in this country is huge and serious and the Catholic Church has the best network of services bar none," she said. "Going to the Catholic Church for social services is very logical." (Unless you're a (likely) college educated idiot who wouldn't want the taint of religious beliefs attached to any help you receive. No problem there, I doubt any victim looking for help is so idiotically selective.)

Representatives of the Department of Health and Human Services did not immediately respond to calls seeking comment. (If I was a rep for the HHS I'd be out getting drunk over this shit. Really.)

This is insane. Is there anyone else out there willing to do the work of the Catholic Church in this area? If so, are they as effective? How come questions like that aren't asked when crap like this comes up?

Another reason to keep drinking lemonade...

Besides a doublebutt ton of coffee every day, homemade lemonade is the only drink I take. I don't use lemons, just generic lemon juice, some Splenda, water and voila! It started as a cost saving measure, now it looks like I'll have another good reason.

January 2, 2009 (LifeSIteNews.com) - Soft drink giant PepsiCo, which also owns Frito Lay chips, Tropicana orange juice, Gatorade and Quaker oatmeal, (more boycotts, good thing I don't eat chips and use only generic oatmeal for my baking) has given a million dollars in the past two years to organizations which promote homosexuality, and forces its employees to attend sexual orientation and gender identity/expression classes. (Reeducation at it's finest. It helps weed out thought crimes.)

$500,000 went to the Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays' (PFLAG) "Straight for Equality" program which, according to PFLAG's website (http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2009/jan/%3Ca%20href=http://community.pflag.org/Document.Doc?id=160">http://community.pflag.org/Document.Doc?id=160), "will be used to expand workplace training." (Why should someone's sexual preference even enter into the workplace enviornment? Can I sue for sexual harassment against another man if I find myself back in the workforce? Kinda have the feeling thats a dumb question.)

Jacqueline Millan, director of PepsioCo Corporate Contributions, said in a PepsiCo bulletin, "We are delighted to continue our partnership with PFLAG. The Straight for Equality in the Workplace training program is unique in that it is promoting the necessary message of inclusion to untapped groups within the local community, and that is a crucial step towards building a healthy work environment." (How?)

Pepsi also gave $500,000 to the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), a group that describes itself as "America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality," according to an American Family Association (AFA) report. (Ohboy! Any bets on what "equality" would entail?)

The AFA indicated that both HRC and PFLAG supported efforts in California to defeat Proposition 8, which defined marriage as being between a man and a woman. HRC, the homosexual group financially supported by Pepsi, gave $2.3 million to defeat Prop 8. (Wonder if anyone working at Pepsi had to hide the fact they supported Prop 8 from their supervisors?)

The AFA has launched a petition and boycott campaign focused on demanding that Pepsi "remain neutral in the culture war." (Hellooooo lemonade!!)

"PepsiCo has refused a request by AFA to remain neutral in the culture war," said AFA Chairman Donald Wildmon in an Action Alert. "The company indicated that it will continue major financial support of homosexual organizations," adding that "Pepsi refuses to give money to any pro-family organization that opposes the homosexual agenda." (Remember the days when major companies would be proud to support family-friendly organizations like the Boy Scouts?)

Wildmon explained that the AFA wrote Pepsi two times (on October 14 and October 29) requesting a meeting to discuss Pepsi's support of homosexual groups, subsequently receiving a "condescending letter" from Paul Boykas, director of public policy, in which Boykas refused to address Pepsi's support of the homosexual agenda. (Guess they figure anyone disapproving of the homosexual "lifestyle" would still buy their caffeinated bellywash.)

Here's a copy of my letter, to be sent tomorrow;

To Whom It May Concern;

Recently I was made aware that in the last two years, Pepsi has given $500,000 to the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and $500,000 to the Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG). The $1,000,000 was to be used to help promote homosexuality in the workplace. I feel this is highly inappropriate and it goes against my own convictions. Because every homosexual organization I know of is overwhelmingly pro-abortion this is doubly damning in my opinion.

I have also been informed that Pepsi requires all employees to attend sexual orientation and gender identity diversity training where they are taught to accept homosexuality in the workplace. My own beliefs make me wonder why such a private matter as sexual orientation needs to even be addressed in the work environment. As a supposedly enlightened culture we strive to remain gender neutral regarding men & women. Why should this neutrality not extend to those with same sex attraction?

I realize company policy will not change any time soon, since so much of this is repugnant I will not buy PepsiCo products in the foreseeable future.

Sincerely,

My name.

Campbell's implicitly endorses gay "partnerships"

Damn! If I'd known this earlier today I've have bought a generic brand soup.

CAMDEN, New Jersey, January 8, 2009 (LifeSiteNews) - The Campbell's Soup Company has placed double-page ads, promoting their Swanson line of broth, in the December 2008 and January 2009 issues of The Advocate, the US's largest homosexual magazine.

One of the ads features two female restaurateurs and a young boy, identifying the women as "partners," with the boy presumably being the son of one of the women.

The American Family Association (AFA), a pro-family advocacy group, condemned the ads, saying they "send a message that homosexual parents constitute a family and are worthy of support," and that Campbell's Soup is giving "their approval to the entire homosexual agenda."

The AFA has begun a campaign to encourage the company to remain neutral in the culture wars by not supporting homosexual publications and same-sex “marriage” with advertising dollars.

Campbell's spokesman Anthony Sanzio was quoted in the Media Daily News as saying that the company will continue to support the homosexual agenda.

"Our position on this is pretty straightforward," Sanzio said. "Inclusion and diversity play an important role in our business, and that fact is reflected in our marketing plan.

"Our plans for the Swanson brand include additional placements in The Advocate."

A similar campaign was launched by the AFA against McDonald's restaurants last year when it was revealed that the hamburger giant had put an executive on the board of the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) and was listed on the group's website as a "Corporate Partner."

A five-month boycott ended successfully in October when McDonald's announced that it had severed its ties to the homosexual business group and declared neutrality in the culture wars as per AFA's request.

In an email to its franchise owners, McDonald's said, "It is our policy to not be involved in political and social issues. McDonald's remains neutral on same sex marriage or any 'homosexual agenda' as defined by the American Family Association."

UPDATE:

Here's a copy of my letter;

Dear Mr. Conant,

I have recently read of your company's ads in The Advocate. Unfortunately Campbell's seems to endorse the concept of gay partnerships, I find this abhorrent.

Henceforth I will purchase my soup from other manufacturers.

Sincerely,
I used my real name here, "Subvet" would fly like a lead ballon.

Our devaluation of life continues...

Found this via the Curt Jester;

WASHINGTON - Many people like to stop and play with newborn babies, but now some adult women are playing house with fake babies.

Some women are even going as far as taking day trips with the fake babies to the park, out to eat, and even hosting birthday parties for them.

Forty-nine-year-old Linda is married with no children of her own. Now, she says she feels like a mother because she has Reborns -- dolls made to look and feel like the real thing.

"It's not a crazy habit, like, you know, drinking, or some sort of, something that's going to hurt you. It's like a hobby.and it doesn't really hurt anybody," Linda said. These women are paying big bucks for this hobby, from $100 to a few thousand dollars. For Reborn owner Lachelle Moore, the fake babies fill a void.

"What's so wonderful about Reborns is that, um, they're forever babies," said Moore, who has grown children and grandchildren. "There's no college tuition, no dirty diapers... just the good part of motherhood," she added.

In her Kansas City home, Moore even has an elaborate room for the dolls. She organizes birthday parties, bakes a cake and even invites guests.

Psychologists say there could be a problem if and when these women stop interacting socially with others in their life.

Saying this is sick is stating the obvious. What is truly sick is the implied acceptance of the practice, in a sane world these women would be strongly urged to seek professional help ASAP.

The War Department and I recently rented "Lars and the Real Girl", a flick about an introvert who gets so lonely he buys an inflate-a-mate and tries passing her off to the world at large as his fiancee. How the folk around him act and his gradual evolvement are the points of the movie. It seemed fairly entertaining, in part because it was (supposedly) so outlandish.

Guess it was just art imitating life.

IMHO this sort of thing and the acceptance it enjoys are the byproducts of our present culture's devaluation of life. Who needs a real baby with all the dirty diapers, snotty noses and late night wakeup calls when you can have a lookalike that just lets you cuddle to your heart's content?

If you think I'm stretching things a bit with the analysis, there was a recent story about a current fad in Japan where robotic dolls are used to substitute for significant others. The whole topic was so distasteful I just glanced at the headlines, other bloggers have made reference to it though and evidently these things are basically robotic inflate-a-mates. I really don't want to go much further, humping blowup dolls always struck me as perverted.

But the point of referencing that item is that the devaluation of human life is worldwide, not just in the West. Some would say it's always been held cheaply, look at how the Japanese behaved in Nanking during WWII, the Germans with the death camps, etc.

The problem with that is the lives held cheaply were always those of "others". Someone not a part of "us", they would be Jews, homosexuals, folks of a different nation, etc. In the present day devaluation we're seeing the "others" are contained within the general population. They're either the very young (aborted children), the very old/terminally ill (euthanasia), soon they'll be the severely handicapped.

In other Western countries it's gone from being optional to seek death for those whose lives inconvenience us, it's now being touted as a "duty". An example of that is here (h/t Curt Jester) ; http://www.newsletter.co.uk/news/Doctors-who-refuse-euthanasia-39wicked39.4845993.jp

Admittedly this is just one dingbat voicing her opinion, but read the entire article. Especially where it gives the result of a vote amongst the audience. 22 members thought laws in the UK prohibiting euthanasia should be changed, 35 didn't.

22 out of 35 is fairly sizable. Wanna bet the percentage will increase over the years as our culture keeps sliding downhill?

So where do we go from here? Hell if I know, all those of us in the prolife corner can do is keep on fighting and hope for the best.

In the meantime, if you're old it doesn't pay to get sick and if you're pregnant be prepared to resist any "suggestions" about aborting a child with the likelihood of a birth defect.

If you're lonely get active in a church and pray a lot. Praying led me to the War Department, so I know it works. After almost eleven years and three kids I can say the aggravations, dirty diapers, snotty noses, etc are worth it. Every damned bit of it.

I wouldn't trade our kids either (and after THAT little comment I'll be moving back here!)
