On selective abortion.
One of the unintended consequences. The article is here.
The War Department and I have been offered prebirth screening of our child for birth defects. This happened all three times. We've turned it down because we feel, "What's the point?" No matter what we're having the baby and trusting to God's mercy & wisdom. Period.
In my last marriage my wife gave birth to our second son. He died 30 hours later. No screening at that time would have detected his birth defect. It didn't exist then and I'm not so sure it does now. Regardless, I'd still go through with it. "Designer babies" don't fit into my game plan.
And what else is spoken of in the above listed article if not selective breeding? It sounds good, no birth defects, getting the child you really love, etc. But every act has unforseen consequences.
If none of this impresses or makes sense than do a Google search of famous people born with defects and figure out what we all would have lost if they'd never been born. The quick list I saw included Jim Abbott, Tom Cruise and Helen Keller. Okay, Tom Cruise isn't my cup of tea either. But SOMEBODY sure likes him!
