"Written by fools to be read by imbeciles."
If you do any surfing of the various blogs I'm sure you've seen this. Somebody call a "wha" bulance for this guy!
He totally neglects the effect blogs have had in insuring journalistic honesty. Just as an example, Dan Rather and his own "Memogate" fiasco comes to mind. IMHO the blogs are gaining notice by schlubs like this guy because they're becoming more of a force to be reckoned with. No, right now most are unpolished, unprofessional, partisan and shallow (unlike this fine thought provoking dissertation you're currently reading, right!) .
But when Guttenberg printed out the Bible the western world didn't suddenly wake up to a flood of fine literature. Dickens, Shakespeare, Twain, etc. would never have had their fame had it not been for old Gutty and his press. Yet the maturation of language and discourse that came about AS A DIRECT RESULT of readily available printed material and the attendant increased literacy took time to accomplish.
IMHO the same will be true of the internet. We're a bunch of clowns right now, finding our way with the brand new toy. The recognition and full utilization of it's potential is generations away. Just IMHO.
So for all us foolish imbeciles, ENJOY!!!
