Our borders should be secured with a 10 ft. high fence topped by concertina wire with minefields out to 20 yards on both sides and an additional 10 yards filled with warning signs outside of that Let's get energy independent NOW! Back Israel to the max, stop appeasing followers of the Pedophile Prophet. Pro 2nd Amendment, pro death penalty, Repeal all hate crime legislation. Back the police unless you'd rather call a hippie when everything hits the fan. Get government out of dealing with education, childhood obesity and the enviornment. Stop using the military for sociological experiments and if we're in a war don't micromanage their every move. Kill your television, limit time on the computer and pick up a book. Senate Refuses to Remove Religious Discrimination in Stimulus Package

By Kathleen Gilbert

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 6, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The U.S. Senate has refused to remove language in the economic stimulus bill proposed by the Obama administration stating that universities accepting funds for facility upgrades would be forbidden to allow religious activity in those areas.
Section 803 of the bill grants funds "for the purpose of modernizing, renovating, and repairing institution of higher education facilities that are primarily used for instruction and research."
The same section, however, prohibits these funds to go to the "modernization, renovation, or repair of facilities--(i) used for sectarian instruction, religious worship, or a school or department of divinity; or (ii) in which a substantial portion of the functions of the facilities are subsumed in a religious mission."

"This provision would, in fact, prohibit universities that allow student groups to use facilities for Bible studies or worship services from receiving federal funds under the stimulus package," wrote Jay Sekulow, an attorney with the American Center for Law and Justice.

Immediately following the discovery of the controversial clause in the several-hundred-page document, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) put forward an amendment that would have invalidated the discriminatory language, but the amendment failed Thursday in a 54-43 vote.

Sekulow wrote that the law center plans to challenge the measure in federal court if the final draft of the stimulus bill still contains the provision and is passed.

"What’s most troubling is the fact that a majority of the Senate supports a discriminatory provision that prohibits religious activity from taking place in college and university facilities nationwide that take federal stimulus funds," wrote Sekulow. "This provision has nothing to do with economic stimulus and everything to do with religious discrimination."
So let me get this straight, our tax money will be used for the repair of Confused State University where no after hours Bible/religious clubs organized by the students can meet? Our money pays for this crap? I wonder who placed this thing in the stimulus package?
I guess it really is a "stimulus" package because I'm feeling REAL stimulated right now!!

Pardon my language but what the Hell is going on in this country? First, this should NOT be in a stimulus, Second, it should have been voted down 99 to 1. There is always nut.

75% of the American public don't want this bill in this form and these morons are trying to pass it anyway. They work for us not the other way around! Call them.

Here's the web site to contact them!

I don't think we need a majority of the people to successfully back a revolutionary movement. The liberals have worked diligently, and for the most part nonviolently, with a small percentage of the population and look at the havoc they created. We need the same commitment. I think that more people have the 'nads to "do this thing" if it does come to a violent overthrow and replacement of the gov't. We just don't talk about it.

Things like this are why we have the 2nd Amendment. Not too long ago I'd have thought anyone saying that was nuts. Now I'm of a different opinion.

I came over here because Gary told me to. Normally, I would ignore a group of paranoiac right wingers feeding each other's paranoia.

the passage says:
"in which a substantial portion of the functions of the facilities are subsumed in a religious mission."
That doesn't sound like a student activities center that happens to be the place where a student Bible study group meets. It sounds like a church. Obviously federal funds cannot be used to rehabilitate churches as this would be a violation of the First Amendment.

Elizabeth, the first thing you do is attack the commenters of this blog in general statement; "Normally, I would ignore a group of paranoiac right wingers feeding each other's paranoia."

So you've evidently come with a closed mind.

I don't mind disagreement with what I write as long as we both keep an open mind. It appears that isn't going to happen.

Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya.
