Saudi money and our oil addiction.

I read this article here , under "Media Campaign in US to dispel Islamophobia" and have to wonder, what else is being funded by the Saudis?

We need to break our oil addiction. I feel it's the number one reason we haven't taken the gloves off and really gone to work over in the Middle East. Fear of alienating our suppliers has a lot to do with the way things are done, a good example being how we're oh so considerate of Muslim sensibilities in Iraq. Bullcrap, how do we successfully prosecute a war if we're so stinking sensitive? And as far as oil goes, who's one of our big suppliers? The Kingdom of Suad.

Do the Sauds want us to break that addiction? Not very likely. Break it and they no longer have any influence on how we conduct our affairs. And the Sauds are very aware of the need to do that. For example, it was recently disclosed they've bought a portion of Fox News. Does anyone really believe we'll continue to get "fair and balanced" coverage when it might lead to a Saudi black eye.

So it they're going to the trouble of funding CAIR for a five year propaganda program, what else are they doing? I normally don't buy into conspiracy theories but it's only common sense for them to try influencing us towards keeping that oil addiction.

Who funds the tree huggers that want us to NOT drill in ANWAR? Are they entirely clean of Saudi complicity? How about research by the big automakers towards getting alternatively fueled vehicles? How about the anti-nuclear power people who scream so vehemently against building more nuke plants? For crying out loud, even FRANCE has well over 70% of it's power from nuke plants. What stops us?

Keep us addicted and the Saudis get to call the tune we dance to. That includes pulling out of Iraq, diminishing our support of Israel, giving preferential treatment to Muslims.

I admit to being less than the sharpest knife in the drawer, and foreign policy isn't something I learned while turd chasing. I'd be interested in any input others have on this topic. It seems like one that's pretty well under the radar for everyone.

Let me put it this way, if Nazi Germany had control of a good portion of our oil supply would we have declared war on them after Pearl Harbor was attacked? Or would we have dithered and babbled a bit before jumping into that?
