About Me

My photo
A Catholic who follows Rome & the Magisterium. I'm against gay "marriage", abortion, embryonic stem cell research, euthanasia, human cloning. Altar girls, Communion in the hand, Eucharistic Ministers and "Protestant" music in the Church doesn't bother me at all. A proud American retired submarine sailor. Our borders should be secured with a 10 ft. high fence topped by concertina wire with minefields out to 20 yards on both sides and an additional 10 yards filled with warning signs outside of that Let's get energy independent NOW! Back Israel to the max, stop appeasing followers of the Pedophile Prophet. Pro 2nd Amendment, pro death penalty, Repeal all hate crime legislation. Back the police unless you'd rather call a hippie when everything hits the fan. Get government out of dealing with education, childhood obesity and the enviornment. Stop using the military for sociological experiments and if we're in a war don't micromanage their every move. Kill your television, limit time on the computer and pick up a book. God's will be done and may He have mercy upon us all.

When I'm wrong, I'm wrong. Period.

"You have to become more like Christ in your behavior."

That was the admonition given me some time ago by a priest who recommended it as an ongoing act of penance. It's tough, ask the War Department how many times in one week I'll apologize for some over the top comment I make to her.

But DAMN! How come I keep running into people like him that call me on my shit?

The other day I posted about a woman who couldn't fit into a conventional MRI machine. Had a lot of fun with it, dragged out an old joke about Navy wives, etc.

Then a commenter unloaded on me.

Normally that just flows off me like water off a duck's back. Thick skin? I've got a hide that a rhino would envy. No problemo. 22 years in the sub force will do it.

But she was right. The post was needlessly insensitive. Theres presently enough evil in the world for me to take aim at with my sarcasm, I don't need to hit good folks as collateral damage when I let loose with my humor.

Mother Darla, you were right. I've removed the post. God isn't going to have us weigh in at the Pearly Gates. I should concentrate on more deserving targets with my barbs.

I'll be thinking about that priest for the next few days now. Him and one other.

Life sure was simpler when I was just a recovering drunk with no religious preference.

Subvet, you are totally forgiven - and by me, too.

We ALL wear blinders from time to time. We all have our prejudices and issues.

Me and my fat bottom thank you for your sensitivity and your humility. Sorry if I was rough on you...

I have noticed, however, that the other post had dogpiled comments while this post has received none.

Regarding your last sentence, that's what makes the road we're on now "the road less traveled."
Good man...takes a big man...

SubVet--

Welcome to the ex-substance-abusing-curmudgeonly-vetran-repentant-catholic-guys sodality!

I spend about 45 minutes a month without being worried about salvation. (I usually do OK on the walk home from confession!)

As far as ragging on a woman of size: I weigh the same now as I did when i was a hard Chargin' NCO in the 82d! Except that my shoulders and other muscles are much softer and smaller, and I now have Donelops Syndrom*.

But as far as trying to be like Christ, remember St. John Vianney: "no ones conversion is done until they are dead."

Hang in there--you help me out!

*where our belly done lopped over your belt.

I must admit, that even as a priest, I too tend to get a bit over the top on some issues, but I believe that sometimes, bluntness is called for to shake some people up. Political Correctness just doesn't cut it.

Of course, that doesn't mean that all obese or overweight people are to blame for their condition, any more than I am to blame for being 83 pounds underweight all my life. But like the old saying, "if the shoe fits...."

I kind of agree with MRG. Political correctness is out of control and sometimes bluntness is appropriate. I better stay out of this one as I am not Catholic.

Well I'm not "Roman" Catholic either but I'll remark anyway. Being Christian isn't about being perfect man, it's about the quest for it. Having fat genes and being 6 feet and 220lbs I'm no scrawny guy myself, I sympathize a little with people who were born that way, but I don't with people who let themselves go. I have have no respect for gastric bypass pushers...they don't work in the long run.

I didn't see the post in question, but I'll take your word for it.
