Should morality influence politics?
Periodically when I opine about abortion I'm told to keep my religion out of politics. That statement always puzzles me, if our religion/morality doesn't influence our entire lives then what damned good is it?
Father Longnecker has covered this topic on his blog. Here's his take. It's well worth the read.

No.
The next time someone tells you not to bring your religious faith into a political discourse, deck 'em.
Then ask if they're happier with the non-religious conduct.
I usually ask them how come their commitment to diversity and inclusion doesn't include me, and why my right to free speech isn't as valuable as theirs.
Which is exactly why I tell people,
"Yes, let's have no religious influence at all in government. So let's strip out the laws against murder, stealing, identity theft, perjury, etc
Is that what you really want? (people have stunned look)...that's what i thought, now shush"
