About Me

My photo
A Catholic who follows Rome & the Magisterium. I'm against gay "marriage", abortion, embryonic stem cell research, euthanasia, human cloning. Altar girls, Communion in the hand, Eucharistic Ministers and "Protestant" music in the Church doesn't bother me at all. A proud American retired submarine sailor. Our borders should be secured with a 10 ft. high fence topped by concertina wire with minefields out to 20 yards on both sides and an additional 10 yards filled with warning signs outside of that Let's get energy independent NOW! Back Israel to the max, stop appeasing followers of the Pedophile Prophet. Pro 2nd Amendment, pro death penalty, Repeal all hate crime legislation. Back the police unless you'd rather call a hippie when everything hits the fan. Get government out of dealing with education, childhood obesity and the enviornment. Stop using the military for sociological experiments and if we're in a war don't micromanage their every move. Kill your television, limit time on the computer and pick up a book. God's will be done and may He have mercy upon us all.

Gungrabbing by the Senate.

It was inevitable that the gungrabbers of this nation play on the furor generated over the Trayvon Martin shooting (which STILL hasn't even begun to be resolved). Here's one of the latest efforts, courtesy of Sen. Barbara Boxer : http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c112:S.176.IS:

Note the title; "Common Sense Concealed Firearms Permit". Yeah right.

For a very brief time I was a part of the gungrabbers, specifically the Million Mom March. This was when the Columbine High School shootings were still fresh in the news. I felt then (and still do) that when bizarre behavior like that becomes more the norm it only makes sense to address it any way possible. That includes tighter restrictions on gun ownership.

Unfortunately there are two sides to the debate, both typified by extremists. On the one hand you have those who believe private possession of anything up to and including an ICBM in your back yard is perfectly reasonable and actually commendable. The other side would ban a child pointing his finger at a playmate and yelling "BANG!". I'm exaggerating, but not by much.

By the way, don't even get me started on the topic of Wayne LaPierre. Back in the 90's I was a recipient of his tract describing the ATF as "jack-booted thugs". Having been an employee of the Feds myself for 22 years I have no tolerance for that sort of characterization.

Anyway, after seeing how the debate was framed I decided to go over to those favoring the 2nd Amendment. There are a lot of nuts amongst us, sometimes I think their religion would be described as "First National Church of The Gun". But at least they're not making it more difficult for me to avoid scenarios such as the time the wife saw a schmuck trying our front door and had no action taken by the cops. The reason? Well the 911 operator thought it involved a confused senior citizen wandering up to our door. She reasoned it had to be thus because my wife spoke so calmly. Gee, imagine that would ya, an RN maintaining her composure under stress. Who'd a thunk it?

Or in the words of a retired homocide detective: "911, when seconds count the police are just minutes away."

So if we're gonna keep our rights we'll be fighting for them against idiots like Barbara Boxer. I suggest contacting Congress when you can. I will.

Sub, I don't wish to antagonize you, but considering the ATF has killed innocent people like Randy Weaver's son and wife, "jack booted thugs" seems to be a fairly accurate description of some of it's employees, some who were never punished for their crimes.

Steve, you're absolutely right. We can also add the Branch Davidian fiasco down in Waco, TX and the strong armed seizure of Elian Gonzalez from his family in Miami.

But I'll point out that you also specify "SOME of it's employees". There are scum in any public service group, including the local police, the military, the fire department, etc. FWIW, I'm becoming more distrustful of any authority figures as time goes by and very glad for my 2nd Amendment rights. Those rights weren't written with the possibility of a foreign invasion in mind, they were written with the possible need of the people to defend themselves from their own government.

But my gripe with LaPierre's tract was it painted with too broad a brush. Maybe he felt it was necessary to make his point, I don't know. It just rubbed me the wrong way and I may have a different take on that than most, several of my cousins and uncles were in the NYPD. We were a close knit family so I heard a lot of things most of my peers didn't. Bottom line, it ain't easy being in law enforcement.

I'm not anti-police myself Subvet. I recently had to called the police because my lawnmower (I thought) was stolen, and I also reported that a creep tried to sexually molest my dog. Thankfully, my dog is a Chow-Chow. CC's don't take kindly to people trying to hurt them and she chased the fool out of my back yard. The moron left a sex toy behind that I found three days later while cutting the grass. BTW, I didsn't see this happen, I figured out what happeneed on the day I found the "toy'. On the night I came home from eating out, I found our Chow-Chow at our front door. She's supposed to be in the backyard and when she has gotten loose in the past, she will always wander around the neighbourhood. But, here she was, standing at our front door. why? She was guarding the house after chasing off the tresspasser! Good dog! Two days after realizing this, I purchased a semi-auto pistol and a semi-auto shotgun to protect my family. God bless the 2nd amendment!

Steve, we're probably more alike than not. Sexually molest your dog? "Sick" doesn't beging describing some people.

BTW, when the police were here, the deputy sheriff told me that the Peoria Heights police recently caught a puppy lover in the act. The moron tried to get fresh with a Great Dane. The GD didn't like it and he suffered for it. Good dog!
