A Catholic who follows Rome & the Magisterium. I'm against gay "marriage", abortion, embryonic stem cell research, euthanasia, human cloning. Altar girls, Communion in the hand, Eucharistic Ministers and "Protestant" music in the Church doesn't bother me at all. A proud American retired submarine sailor. Our borders should be secured with a 10 ft. high fence topped by concertina wire with minefields out to 20 yards on both sides and an additional 10 yards filled with warning signs outside of that Let's get energy independent NOW! Back Israel to the max, stop appeasing followers of the Pedophile Prophet. Pro 2nd Amendment, pro death penalty, Repeal all hate crime legislation. Back the police unless you'd rather call a hippie when everything hits the fan. Get government out of dealing with education, childhood obesity and the enviornment. Stop using the military for sociological experiments and if we're in a war don't micromanage their every move. Kill your television, limit time on the computer and pick up a book. God's will be done and may He have mercy upon us all.

Why I won't watch television...

While over at "...the hell with it" I came upon a post that brought an old Rod Serling quote to mind: "It is difficult to produce a television documentary that is both incisive and probing when every twelve minutes one is interrupted by twelve dancing rabbits singing about toilet paper."

Ya know, that about says it all, especially considering the fact that things have only gotten worse since his time.

I've pretty much quit watching anything on TV that is a new show. They are all filled with bad language and sex and I'm really sick of it. The shows that used to be comedy have humor that is hateful and spiteful. It's just not funny anymore.

I find myself watching old re-runs of Little House on the Prairie and The Waltons. My husband has been into the old Perry Mason re-runs, we always get a good laugh at how somebody always spills their guts and confesses to the crime while they're on the stand.

Reminds me of something I read during the flap about Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction". One man observed that his seven-year-old son didn't say anything about the brief breast exposure, but did wonder what the halftime commercial meant by "ED".

In the immortal words of Fred Allen, "Television is a medium because anything well done is rare."

Mary Ellen/Nunly, the older shows such as "Perry Mason" had a lot more going for them (like decent scripts!). We stopped watching the tube right after the Janet Jackson "wardrobe malfunction" (seriously, how could that NOT have been planned? The woman was wearing a pasty and nipple ring under her top. Not exactly what most chicks would wear if they were to remain covered up.).

A lot of folk ask how we're able to do it. We just turned off the damned tube, THATS HOW! Admittedly, we use the PC and iphone a lot but the content viewed is solely our choice and that means its more mentally stimulating.

Anthony, Fred Allen hit the nail on the head with that one!

As I was saying over at my place, you really need to read "Primetime Propaganda" by Ben Shapiro...Rod Serling was one of the ones trying to subvert and insert liberal programming onto TV. I will not ever look at TV shows the same way again.

And thanks for the link! :)

The Ranter, no problem with the link. You've done the same for me in the past. As for "Primetime Propaganda", I fully intend to read it. From what I've already read about Serling, he was a hell of a man in many ways (thinking of his war record) but well known for pushing his beliefs via the media.
