Weird things...

Anyone know if you can be haunted by a pet?

I've had the damndest things happening, I'll be lying in bed and feel a cat pawing at the mattress. When I turn on the light, neither one of our furballs is in evidence.

Tonight the wife was off and still on her regular sleep schedule, that means she'll be up all night. So I'm nodding off and I feel that same sensation, really strong this time.

Since the cats are really attached to her I knew they weren't in the room, plus the door was shut so I wouldn't be kept awake by the lights in the living room where the wife is. So they couldn't go running off even if they had been mistakenly left with me.

I checked. Both our felines are asleep near her.

NOW as I write this I'm wide awake (go figure).

We had a tabby some years ago that was attached to me. He was really aggressive, we'd always figured him to be at least half feral. Anyway, when our oldest was born the cat turned on the wife twice. That did it. Since he was really wild when caged up (a fact we determined after having to leave him at an animal hospital overnight) I took him for a ride and left him off near an apartment complex. He'd have never survived a shelter. Bye bye kitty.

So, anyone have any thoughts on this one? I definitely felt the sensation I've described after waking up tonight, hell I thought the bed would shake if it got stronger.

Anyway, thanks for listening.

FWIW, the wife reminded me that we've had other mysterious things happen before. It occurred two weeks prior to having our parish priest bless the house. Since then until now, nothing.

I don't know if you can be visited by the ghost of a departed pet, but I swear one of our chickens is channeling our late dog Gypsy. They share a wanderlust that causes us to drive home from the store only to find the animal walking down the middle of the street. We look at each other and ask, "How the hell did she get out this time?"

Actually yes, in my condo when I first moved in. I would feel paws kneeding me. The previous owner had cats, so I've always wondered.

I've also wakened up in sleep paralysis to see one of my deceased cats once, the night I first brought a new cat into the house.

Of course having cats that seem to be staring at nothing, also is disconcerting.

Arby, animals are strange alright. When I was a kid we had a German Shepherd that thought every cat in the neighborhood was a friend. He had some interesting scars to prove it!

Baronger, thanks for stopping by. You're right about that stare into nothing, THAT freaks me out everytime! And if I saw one of my deceased cats, I'd be awake for days.

Subvet, this may sound strange coming from a priest, but I would have to say YES. I had a Mini Rat Terrier who passed away in 2002 at the age of 19 years old (that's people years). Her name was "Baby".

"Baby" used to sleep next to me on the bed at night, and she had the habit of pressing her butt against my leg so that she would know if I got up. If I moved, she would move also so that she was touching me at all times during the night.

She has been gone for eight years now, yet when I go to bed, and long before I fall asleep, I can feel her jump on the bed and I can feel her pressing against my leg.

Also, when I am watching TV or working on my computer, I will see "Baby" walk by out of the corner of my eye, and suddenly, my new dog "Munchkin" will sit up and stare in the direction I saw "Baby", and let out a little bark.

To tell you the truth, I kind of like these little visits.

That cat loved you so if he's hanging around it's got to be a good thing.
