Growing fatherlessness

FWIW, my own father lost his dad at the age of 9 to pnuemonia while my mother lost hers when he was driven out of the house by my grandmother and eldest aunt. My grandmother was the sort whose visits were dreaded by the grandkids, she was a pure bitch.

Since neither parent had a good handle on the role of a man in the house, it made for interesting times. Something to be avoided if possible.

The old mindset of staying together for the sake of the children no matter how much the parents hate one another has it's merits. I've run into men with off-the-charts dysfunctional behavior that can be traced directly back to having had only a single parent.
