Sen. John Cornyn on the Senate Healthcare Bill
WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, a member of the Senate Finance Committee, today issued the following statement regarding new analysis by consulting firm Oliver Wyman indicating Harry Reid’s health care bill will increase premiums for individuals by 61 percent in Texas over 5 years:
“I’m not sure where the lines of communication crossed or when the priorities shifted, but the original stated goal of lowering health care costs for hard-working Americans has certainly been left in the dust. A new independent report reveals the Reid health care bill will raise premiums for Texans purchasing coverage on their own by 61 percent over 5 years. I find it hard to believe some in the Senate are truly committed to passing an ill-conceived, $2.5 trillion health care package that fails to meet any of the President’s original goals for health care reform, such as lowering health care costs, protecting Medicare, and lowering our deficit.
“I encourage all Texans to pay close attention to this historic debate and make your voices heard if you do not want to see your premiums raised.”
