Thoughts on a double standard and it's implications...

B.O. has come out with a statement about the murder of pro-life advocate James Pouillon in Michigan;

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- President Barack Obama waited over 48 hours before finally releasing a very short statement condemning the Friday shooting of pro-life advocate James Pouillon. in hours of the shooting of late-term abortion practitioner George Tiller, Obama had a statement, but he drug he feet on this incident.

As LifeNews.com reported, Pouillon, 63, was shot Friday morning as he protested abortion outside a local hospital in Owosso, Michigan.

Local officials have detained 33-year-old Harlan Drake, who told police he killed Jim Pouillon because he didn't like how he would protest abortion in front of the school.

Obama's brief statement is just half the size of his statement after the Tiller shooting and makes no mention of Pouillon's pro-life stance or that he was shot because he opposed abortion.

"The shooting last week in Michigan was deplorable. Whichever side of a public debate you're on, violence is never the right answer," Obama said.

The is compared to his statement in reaction to the Tiller shooting:

"I am shocked and outraged by the murder of Dr. George Tiller as he attended church services this morning. However profound our differences as Americans over difficult issues such as abortion, they cannot be resolved by heinous acts of violence," he said then.

While Obama was slow to finally condemn the shooting of the pro-life advocate, some pro-abortion groups like Planned Parenthood and Emily's List have made no public comment on the killing of Pouillon despite aggressively attacking pro-life advocates after Tiller's death.

When it came to the Tiller murder, Obama released a statement and the Justice Department announced an investigation.

"The Department of Justice will work tirelessly to determine the full involvement of any and all actors in this horrible crime, and to ensure that anyone who played a role in the offense is prosecuted to the full extent of federal law," said Loretta King, head of the department's civil rights division.

Obama also directed the U.S. Marshals Service to offer protection to abortion practitioners.

Representatives of Operation Rescue, Concerned Women for America, the National Clergy Council, and the Christian Defense Coalition participated in an afternoon press conference on Friday and called on Attorney General Eric Holder and President Obama to condemn the killing as they did when Tiller was shot.

Troy Newman of Operation Rescue said the pro-life movement has been vigorously attacked since Obama was elected and since Tiller was shot.

“There has been an uptick in the amount of death threats we have received," he said. "There seems to be a stonewalling on the investigation."

Judy Zabik, who is the spokesman for Flint Area Right to Life is calling on tougher protections for pregnancy centers and pro-life advocates.

"I would publicly insist that all crisis pregnancy centers be afforded the same protection that Eric Holder gave to all the abortion clinics around the country after Tiller was murdered," she said.

Former Republican presidential candidate and American Values leader Gary Bauer said he has seen a different approach from the mainstream media in its reporting on the Pouillon shooting.

"Regrettably, there have been incidents of violence at abortion centers in recent years. We, and virtually every pro-life group, have condemned those acts," he told LifeNews.com. "At the same time, Big Media never missed an opportunity to use each example to condemn the entire pro-life movement as if it consisted entirely of hate-filled people."

"Today, a pro-life activist was shot and killed outside of a Michigan high school. The victim has been described in press reports as a 63-year old man, who wore leg braces, occasionally used a walker and a portable oxygen tank," he continued.

"Will reporters and journalists offer commentary on the extremism of the pro-abortion movement and the culture of death that it perpetuates? Will this story even make the evening news?"

Thus far, the media reporting has been light compared with the blow-by-blow details given to the Tiller shooting.

So here in plain view is the double standard used on the two sides of the abortion battle. When Tiller was killed it was like the only thing left to do was call out the Marines. Maybe even that was considered but the Posse Comitatus Act got in the way, (I'm only half kidding on that one.).

But when a pro lifer is killed theres an almost begrudging two sentence statement made for the sake of appearances. No actions by the U.S. Marshals, the Justice Dept., etc.

The marginalization of the pro life movement continues. While a fair number of folks will note the lack of continuity in response, there will be too many who trust the government's judgment and almost unconsciously feel the pro-lifers must be slightly disreputable to merit just a token response. Almost like saying a skin headed neo-nazi is entitled to his views but you secretly cheer on the gang of blacks that kick his ass for stating them.

This isn't strictly a "Democratic/liberal/progressive thing" either. We've become something of a nuisance to the GOP also, as witnessed by such incidents as Michael Steele initially saying that party needs to become "more inclusive" and "reach out" to the pro aborts.

This is because for many conservatives, abortion isn't viewed as the murder of innocent humans except in an abstract, emotionally detached manner. It's an important issue but not "that important".

I think it was Reagan who said that a man who agrees with you on just 60% of the issues is still an ally. That's true for the most part but there are some definite deal breakers and abortion should be at the top of the list. It's either murder or it isn't, it's concerned with a human being or it isn't. No middle of the road and because there is no middle of the road there is no chance for compromise. Period.

So we'll see more efforts for "dialogue" with the pro aborts. Those wishing for such should remember that he who sups with the Devil needs a long spoon.

IMHO the time for patience is drawing to a close. I'm definitely NOT ADVOCATING ANY VIOLENCE!! But being willing to settle for half a loaf is not enough. The culture of death is playing to get all the marbles, why shouldn't we?

We need to be more vocal, more of a pain in the ass on this topic. Making it a prime topic of political debate will ensure it's more likely to be treated seriously, not just as another bargaining chip in a power game.

And game it is, the politicos that run this country are in it for themselves and WE THE PEOPLE can get screwed as far as they're concerned. This isn't just about abortion, our values are routinely disregarded. For evidence of this look to Maryland where the state's attorney is considering filing charges related to the recent exposure of ACORN malfeasance, charges against the whistle blowers that is;

STATEMENT OF STATE’S ATTORNEYS OFFICE FOR BALTIMORE CITY RELATIVE TO THE ALLEGED BALTIMORE ACORN INCIDENT
Baltimore, MD – September 11, 2009 – We have received inquiries from citizens and the media asking whether the Baltimore City State’s Attorneys Office would initiate a criminal investigation for acts allegedly committed at ACORN offices located in Baltimore. The only information received in reference to this alleged criminal behavior was a YouTube video. Upon review by this office, the video appears to be incomplete. In addition, the audio portion could possibly have been obtained in violation of Maryland Law, Annotated Code of Maryland Courts and Judicial Proceedings Article §10-402, which requires two party consent.

If it is determined that the audio portion now being heard on YouTube was illegally obtained, it is also illegal under Maryland Law to willfully use or willfully disclose the content of said audio. The penalty for the unlawful interception, disclosure or use of it is a felony punishable up to 5 years.

So in front of God and everyone else, the prosecutors admit to investigating how the video was obtained. Never mind the content of that video, where ACORN employees knowingly condoned child prostitution. It's all about nailing citizens with the chutzpah to rock the boat that needed rocking.

Where in hell is the outrage? The outrage merited by this prosecutor's office for their investigation AND the outrage merited for the Federal Government using a different standard of protection for pro lifers and adherents of the culture of death? Any voices from the Left OR the Right? Anyone..., anyone..., Bueller..., Bueller....?

As long as the pro life movement accepts the "half a loaf is better than none" mentality we'll keep being marginalized by BOTH sides of the political aisle. The general public that is just watching the show and feels no visceral interest in this will increasingly regard pro lifers as somewhat nutty and disreputable. Abortion will continue to flourish, along with it will come euthanasia, human cloning and genetic manipulation with other species that would make Dr. Moreau jealous.

In the end the only difference between ourselves and the beasts will be their refusal to readily cannibalize their own.

So for the sake of our souls we need to start speaking loud and clear, not just on the topic of abortion but on ANYTHING that demotes human life. It needs to continue no matter what party is in power.

This morning I heard our parish priest speak about the Old Testament prophets. According to him they often served as advisers, not just foretelling death & destruction but on a day-t0-day basis advising the rulers whether or not they were straying from the will of God.

This nation was founded on a Judeo-Christian ethos, like it or not that is EXACTLY how it was.

We need to return to that. We need to be more mindful of the will of God in our daily lives. If that doesn't sit quite right with the atheists, agnostics, Hindus, Muslims, etc. that is really tough shit. When we follow God's will we're a better people for it. Period. That sounds like a statement coming from a real hardcore, Billy Sunday type of Bible thumper. Nope.

But all of this nation's biggest problems have occurred when we were more concerned with this life than the next. As an example, slavery was accepted into the creation of our nation and caused (and still causes) countless problems by it's very existence. I've read of the Liberty Bell and how it cracked when initially tested in 1753, cracked again in 1835 (on the death of John Marshall, who had been known to support the rights of Cherokee Indians prior to the Trail of Tears) and was finally rendered unusable in 1846. I'm not especially superstitious but note the tie-in with a flawed and compromised government of a country that cherishes freedom for all.

We are and always have been the best country of this world, but we've forgotten our Judeo-Christian roots and need to get back to them. Get back to them and go further in embracing those roots than we have before in our history.

The culture of death is not only in this country but worldwide, like it or not we're on one side or the other. If that culture continues growing we'll see a world unlike any we've ever imagined. Look to how everyday life is now and compare it to 20-30 years ago, so much has changed for the worse. The pace of the change is increasing, the lines of demarcation becoming more pronounced between those who choose life and those who worship Thanatos.

We've the curse of living in interesting times.

You cannot expect people who do not value human life to have anything significant to say about the murder of a human being, especially if the person vocally and publicly stood in support of human life. President Obama was shocked and outraged over the death of George Tiller because he lost a valuable supporter, someone who actively murdered innocent human beings. It is ironic that the only human life he appears to value is that of someone who kills other human beings. The only reason we do not see pro-choice organizations dancing in streets, celebrating the death of James Pouillon in the same manner that enemies of the United States danced in the streets and fired weapons in the air when the twin towers fell on 9/11, is because they know they would lose points in court of public opinion. If President Obama was truly the “uniter” he would be speaking out against James Pouillon’s murder in terms as strong as he did when George Tiller was murdered. President Obama reveals himself to be just another political hack. But, we all knew that.

Agnes, yeah I didn't want to come on too strong. Hope my points were made.

Arby, you hit the nail right on the head.

Like our Lord said, "A little leaven leavens the whole loaf." Just a little heresy, a little relaxing of the standards endangers the entire belief structure. We have seen this in our own generation with the gradual descent into pornographic media, approval of sexual perversion, disrespect for tradition and the glorification/degradation of the human body.
The Apostles warned us of this as the spirit of antichrist was already very active in the first century Church.

sig94, Amen to that.

Rev. Gregori, was there ever any doubt?

I've been criticized for being a "one-issue" type of person. But, when it comes to politics, this one issue absolutely must stand above the others. I believe it is an indicator on the rest of a candidate's/politicians views.

A politician can be right 99%, but if he's not pro-life, he's wrong.
