About those paranoid conservatives...

A US "taster" tested the food being dished up to President Barack Obama at a dinner in a French restaurant, a waiter said on Sunday.

"They have someone who tastes the dishes," said waiter Gabriel de Carvalho from the "La Fontaine de Mars" restaurant where Obama and his family turned up for dinner on Saturday night.

"It wasn't very pleasant for the cooks at first, but the person was very nice and was relaxed, so it all went well," he said on the Itele news channel.

Asked by AFP to comment, the restaurant confirmed the report.

So, everytime a conservative starts thinking about ulterior motives and unseen agendas, they're pooh-poohed as being delusional and needing a customized hugme jacket.

When was the last time a food taster was used by ANY President?

Here's my take on this idiocy; when you've got a paranoid SOB in charge of things you can expect all kinds of lunacy. This would explain the DOJ sending out US Marshalls after "Tiller The Killer" got shot last week. It would explain the DHS generating a memo citing various groups as breeding grounds for "right-wing extremists". IMHO it explains a lot!

I forget which Roman Emperor it was that had his siblings and own mother killed because he believed they were conspiring against him. It might have been Nero. The point is the guy was off-the-charts paranoid and his entire country suffered for it every time he felt a bogey man was hiding under the bed.

You might want to hand me a tinfoil hat but I honestly get a very bad feeling about this sort of behavior. No shit, I've worked for paranoids in the civilian community and they're no fun to deal with.

UPDATE 6/8/09: The White House is denying it happened. The article stating this (found via Lucianne.com) also notes there was a similar story during the Bush years. Who knows?
