About Me

My photo
A Catholic who follows Rome & the Magisterium. I'm against gay "marriage", abortion, embryonic stem cell research, euthanasia, human cloning. Altar girls, Communion in the hand, Eucharistic Ministers and "Protestant" music in the Church doesn't bother me at all. A proud American retired submarine sailor. Our borders should be secured with a 10 ft. high fence topped by concertina wire with minefields out to 20 yards on both sides and an additional 10 yards filled with warning signs outside of that Let's get energy independent NOW! Back Israel to the max, stop appeasing followers of the Pedophile Prophet. Pro 2nd Amendment, pro death penalty, Repeal all hate crime legislation. Back the police unless you'd rather call a hippie when everything hits the fan. Get government out of dealing with education, childhood obesity and the enviornment. Stop using the military for sociological experiments and if we're in a war don't micromanage their every move. Kill your television, limit time on the computer and pick up a book. God's will be done and may He have mercy upon us all.

Just a swinging in the wind...

So from what I've read, Mitch Daniels was the Man of The Hour at the recent CPAC. Seems his view of a truce on conservative cultural values is a winner.

This was the same CPAC where one of the sponsors was a gay group.

I've the feeling those of us opposing abortion, gay marriage, ESCR, etc. may soon find ourselves swinging in the wind. Orphaned again while the state of the economy takes first priority.

Reminds me of the conversations my wife and I had prior to her getting pregnant with our first child. I was hesitant, wanting to wait for more financially secure times. Her response of, "Theres never a good time financially for having children, let's get on with the show." brought me back to planet Earth.

She was right. Theres never a "good" time for starting a family. You either go for it or stay home. End of story. Once you start having kids you can say "bye-bye" to routinely eating in restaurants or buying whatever suits your fancy. But the trade off is more than worth it.

Damn, I'm glad that woman married me!

So taking it to the national level, there will never be a "good" time for focusing first and foremost on cultural values. When that happens everything else will take a back seat. From the looks of things the leadership of the GOP won't bite the bullet, they're too busy trying to garner votes.

Those of us willing to endure financial hardship for the sake of our nation's soul will find ourselves a lone voice in the wilderness. That'll be the state of our culture until some catastrophe happens to wake us up. It's happened before and it'll happen again, just read some history.

Sorry if this post is kinda vague and unfocused. It's a Monday morning, I've a full plate today and Veggie Tales is playing in the background.

Like you, I expect the GOP to abandon its traditional family values in favor of pandering for votes.

BTW, I'm really enjoying that version of "Shenandoah" on your playlist. My father's family hailed from the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. If I have my way after I'm gone, that song will be played at my funeral.

**Sigh**, with the exception of our brave Military men/women, I fear you are not only correct, but most of the folks I meet nowadys are all about "What's in it for me?"

Yupper, frum the sound of it, you, like me, got yourself an intelligent, loving and good woman. Sounds like a blessing to me.

AOW, thanks for the comments about Shenandoah. Hayley Westenra is terrific.

And yep, the GOP is trying to become more like the Dems as they do everything they can to garner votes.

Cookie, that exception will become more alienated from the country at large as we continue into a "me, me, me, it's all about me mindset."

And my wife is definetly a blessing.

The GOP needs to have a philosophical base that won't change with the times before we can rely on them for anything, ultimately. I posted about the GOP recently. Check out my blog at http://whatistheroomofshatteredglass.blogspot.com/

I saw your comments on BadCatholic and trotted over to your place. I like your style.
