The title of this blog refers to the routine evolution of pressurizing & emptying to sea a human waste tank of an American submarine built prior to the mid 70's. If you don't do it right you wind up covered with excrement. The same can be said for blogging at times. Been there, done that, got the tee shirt. I'm a retired Senior Chief A-ganger from the US Submarine Service. Revert back in the Catholic Church. Recovering alcoholic. Living in Texas. 59 years old, happily married with three children, all eight years of age or under. Fully "retired", the wife works while I take care of the kids and home.

"Gun Control Imminent" update...

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Environmental Protection Agency has denied a petition by five environmental groups to ban lead in hunting ammunition.

The agency said Friday that it did not have the authority to enact the ban under the Toxic Substances Control Act, as the groups had requested.

But the EPA says it's still reviewing another part of the petition, to ban lead fishing sinkers.

The agency informed one of the groups, American Bird Conservancy, of the decision in a letter.

The groups had argued in their petition that millions of animals are dying from eating lead-shot pellets or carcasses contaminated by lead. They say an estimated 10 million to 20 million birds and other animals die each year from lead poisoning in the U.S.

(End of story. My commentary is below)
So why is the EPA even considering involvement in banning either lead bullets or sinkers? Shouldn't this have been considered by the Fish & Wildlife Service?

Wonder what drove this decision to back off, could it have been all the attention being paid to the subject?

Just wondering.

I imagine the flood of outrage from sportsmen may have taken them aback. And when in the hell do they get the numbers for tens of millions of birds that die from lead poisoning? Another made up, completely bogus statistic from the anti-gun nuts.

Sig94, Mark Twain said there "lies, damned lies and statistics". This would be a case in point. As for being taken aback by the response of sportsmen, this isn't the first time this administration has been blindsided by a huge groundswell of anger. I recall during the first six months, B.O. floated the idea of having service connected injuries paid in part by the veterans themselves. That one died so quick it wasn't funny.

If you think the NRA is a powerful lobby, just piss off the veteran's organizations.

Pops, I've no doubt we'll see more lunacy like this. We'd better stay on our toes.

I've always liked the quote "An armed person is a citizen. An unarmed person is a slave."

OR

"Those who beat their weapons into plow-shares will be slaves to those who DIDN"T!"

Cookie, I like that second one best. Really tells the truth.
