Spc. Christopher M. Cooper, of Oceanside, Calif., died Friday of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident. Cooper, 28, was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 28th Infantry, 172nd Infantry Brigade, Grafenwöhr, Germany.
The incident is under investigation, officials said.
The brigade is currently returning to Germany following a yearlong deployment to Iraq.
A memorial will take place within the two weeks, according to Capt. Matthew McGraw, the battalion’s rear detachment spokesman.
