MINNEAPOLIS (AP)-Minnesota National Guard Spc. George W. Cauley died Saturday, Oct 10. The Department of Defense says the 24-year-old was wounded Wednesday when insurgents attacked his vehicle with a homemade bomb in Afghanistan's Helmand province.

Cauley graduated from Northland High School in 2003. Principal Joe Akre says Cauley always had a smile on his face and got along with everybody.

Northland football coach Shem Daugherty says when Cauley returned to school wearing his military uniform, it was obvious he was proud.
