"Hey stupid, right now we're all Christians."
Which is a comment I wanted to leave but didn't.
I was on another blog tonight where the owner posted a WTF article about the leader of Paraguay. He's a former Catholic bishop who now admits to fathering a child out of wedlock while he was still in his clerical position. One of the commenters didn't let the opportunity for some Catholic bashing to go by. (Sigh) The blog owner is a decent sort whom I respect & admire, she didn't need any flame wars being started by my reaction to an idiot. Thats why I have my own blog.
There are plenty of smug, self righteous assholes to go around ALL the Christian denominations (including Catholics). Unfortunately they all too often are given a pass by their fellows. That might fly in previous times but IMHO we all need to wake the hell up, smell the coffee and realize there are bigger problems in this world.
Just looking at the popular culture in this nation I'd say it won't be too long before any Christian who espouses "traditional" values will find their ass in a sling. That includes Catholics, Baptists, Lutherans, Episcopalians, Congregationalists, Presbyterians, Pentecostals, Mormons (it's my blog, if I want to lump them in as Christians, I will.), and any others I may have missed.
So we'd all better learn how to pull together for the next few decades. If we're REALLY followers of Christ that shouldn't be too damned difficult.
As for the nitwit who slammed the Church, I'll be praying for her tonight. Like all too many of us, she probably needs it.

Thanks Rev.
What does a protestant have against a bishop fathering a child anyway?
At least, as someone pointed out, if it was a U.S. Bishop failing to live up to his vow of celibacy, fathering a child would be a highly unlikely result.
So you think it's ok for a professing Christian to use profanity, especially publicly on a blog?
Paul, OUCH!!
Anonymous, as I understand the Commandment it's only taking the Lord's name in vain that is sinful. Profanity isn't covered by that. In this life Christians aren't perfect, only striving for improvement. So stick it up your ass and piss off.
Subvet--
You know how I feel about this. I just haven't decided whether the appropriate respnse is to suffer in beatific silence, like a 2d century martyr, or do the Macabbee.
And yep, it would be unlikely for a US bishop to father a child if her failed in his practice of chasity--That was my blog commentary on the whole ex-bishop cum president mess.
Subvet,
Hear Hear; I agree with you. We all kneel at the same cross. It pisses me off until I can't see straight with the smug, self righteous nimrods that are in all denominations. Jesus ministered to the toughest and least loved in the society of his day.(fishermen and tax collectors) Christians today need to seek grace trough hard work and ministering to the misery and hurt in this world. We are all mortal men and should be the last to tell someone of the splinter in their eye.
BTW, I really like your interpretation of the third Commandment,
" as I understand the Commandment it's only taking the Lord's name in vain that is sinful. Profanity isn't covered by that. In this life Christians aren't perfect, only striving for improvement. So stick it up your ass and piss off."
I will have to keep that up my sleeve for when I get into a battle of wits with one of those sanctimonious fools who seem to live life untested.
