Now history won't be taught because someone might hear of things not taught at home? Will this also follow in sex ed? If some child is taught by their parents that homosexuality is a mental disorder will that go without comment? Thought not.
This gem stood out, "In particular settings, teachers of history are unwilling to challenge highly contentious or charged versions of history in which pupils are steeped at home, in their community or in a place of worship.”
I recall a Holucaust denier in the flyspeck town I went to high school in. Even by the standards of Southern California this guy was a four star nut case. Yet HIS kids were taught the same things as the rest of us! But he wasn't a Muslim. Guess times have changed.
I realize this story takes place in England and we're not that far along yet. But that day is fast coming. Theres a reason we've had the Holocaust pushed into our faces all these years, its done to highlight the possibility of evil in the heart of every man. THAT was the primo lesson from WWII and the Nuremberg Trials, that this sort of thing is always possible. The only thing needed for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing.
I'm no particular lover of the Jews. Sometimes I think they really need to get over themselves. Especially the ones in this country. But what happened to them in the runup to WWII is something we should all learn and always be aware of. And it really doesn't matter who gets their panties in a twist about it, without the knowledge of an atrocity like this taking place in a modern society we run the risk of it being repeated.
And when that happens we'll have lost our souls.
So when something of this nature takes place, no matter where in the civilized world it's happening, we need to be concerned.
