Two prayers....

About Me

My photo
A Catholic who follows Rome & the Magisterium. I'm against gay "marriage", abortion, embryonic stem cell research, euthanasia, human cloning. Altar girls, Communion in the hand, Eucharistic Ministers and "Protestant" music in the Church doesn't bother me at all. A proud American retired submarine sailor. Our borders should be secured with a 10 ft. high fence topped by concertina wire with minefields out to 20 yards on both sides and an additional 10 yards filled with warning signs outside of that Let's get energy independent NOW! Back Israel to the max, stop appeasing followers of the Pedophile Prophet. Pro 2nd Amendment, pro death penalty, Repeal all hate crime legislation. Back the police unless you'd rather call a hippie when everything hits the fan. Get government out of dealing with education, childhood obesity and the enviornment. Stop using the military for sociological experiments and if we're in a war don't micromanage their every move. Kill your television, limit time on the computer and pick up a book. God's will be done and may He have mercy upon us all.

The truth is out there, I guess.

Veggie Tales

Doctors call it a miracle. A Southern Colorado woman was in a vegetative state for more than six years, but now, she's talking for the first time. She spoke exclusively to 11 News.

Christa Lilly had a heart attack then a stroke. That's the last thing she remembers. It was November of 2000, when Lilly slipped into a vegetative state, which is essentially like a coma, but with the eyes open. Lilly was unconscious and unaware of her surroundings. Now, for the first time in six and a half years, she's awake, alert, and talking. "I think it's wonderful. It makes me so happy," Lilly tells us.

The last time Lilly was aware of the world around her, Bill Clinton was in office and the September 11th attacks hadn't even happened. Lilly was also surprised to find out her youngest daughter is now 12. "It's kinda exciting," Chelcy says. She’s Christa’s daughter. And she's also a grandmother of three, that's new too. "Seeing her talking," Latiana says, is the greatest gift of all. She's 6-years-old and the oldest of the grandchildren.

“To come back out of it... God is good," Minnie Smith, Lilly’s mother, says. She has been taking care of her all these years. She says this past Sunday, her prayers were answered. "Every morning, I always check on her when I wake up, before I go to the bathroom. I always say, ‘Hi baby, how are you doing?’ She said, ‘I'm fine’ and that's when I knew she was awake." A two-word answer that changed everything.

Lilly says her biggest frustration is learning how to talk again. "I've been eating cake." Eating is no problem for this woman, who had been kept alive by a feeding tube.

“This is a miracle,” Lilly's neurologist, Dr. Randall Bjork, tells us. He checked to see her how her brain is functioning. He says he's as surprised as everyone else. "This is all mystical and I can't explain it."

Let's repeat the last paragraph:

“This is a miracle,” Lilly's neurologist, Dr. Randall Bjork, tells us. He checked to see her how her brain is functioning. He says he's as surprised as everyone else. "This is all mystical and I can't explain it."

I had a conversation with my coworker last night. We spoke about Terry Schiavo and he was of the opinion that pulling the tubes was the right thing to do. Wish I'd had this article on hand at the time but that's the way it goes.

Anyway, the main point here is that we never really know everything, that hope and prayer should never be abandoned. Call it foolishness on my part but I've seen just a few too many unexplained and unexplainable things to automatically assume we really know it all.

My second wife for instance. She had cancer of the bone in her lower left leg. They replaced the bone with one from a corpse (ugh!) and assured her she would need a walker or cane for the rest of her life. She now trots around with no assistance whatsoever. Considering how big her fat ass is, that qualifies as a miracle all by itself! But I'm getting ugly, the point is made.

Another case involved a kid at my oldest son's school who stole a bottle of mercury and took it home. She played with it, got it in her blood, fell into a coma and the doctors figured she'd be a vegetable the rest of her life. Turns out when I last heard about her she'd made a full recovery.

And for those of us who like to think sinners who have such an experience will automatically "come to Jesus", nope. The kid grew up to be white trash, just like the rest of her family and my ex is still a sleazeball. God works in mysterious ways for His own reasons and they don't have to make sense to the likes of us. Go figure.

So we don't know everything. We're not even aware of what we really DO know. For more of this I'd reference you to Old Gary at Contrary. He routinely finds items of the unexplained and does it far better than I could.

Bottom line, a little prayer and humility on the part of us all might go a long way towards making our lives better.

UPDATE:

Evidently the woman has slipped back into a coma. IMHO it doesn't negate what I've posted already, I'm updating this in the interest of accuracy. As I said before, we really don't know why things happen the way they do. Maybe we're not meant to.
