Far from it. The strength of your convictions comes through loud and clear but in an entirely acceptable fashion.

As you say, we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. For my own part I believe parents should be the ones to handle bullying and prejudice issues.

Morality being instilled by outsiders solely on their own initiative is wrong in my book. Were these children in a private school it would be an entirely different ball game. But they're not and a public school should concern itself primarily with academic excellence. I also feel the school administration should be responsive to the concerns & wishes of their student's parents.

Just my opinion.

Thanks for stopping by again. Just to look at this a different way....Hi subvet-

Just to look at this a different way...what if the school board decided to have a program that would teach students not to bully Catholics or Christians? And what if Muslim parents complained and said they would not allow their children in that class because they don't want their kids "indoctrinated" into the Christian religion?

The likelihood is that the program or class did not have plans to indoctrinate anyone into the Christian faith, but to point out that it is not right to bully others because of their religion. You could also use that same story and reverse it. Maybe the school would have to have a class to teach the kids it's wrong to discriminate or bully people who are Muslims. Would someone who is a Christian think that their kids would walk out of that class as a Muslim?

And how would the teachers teach a class about who a Muslim is, unless they tell them?

Not to mention, if there is a problem within a school district where kids who are gay or come from homes with gay parents are being bullied, it might not be a bad idea to instruct them that not only what they are doing is against the law, but it's against moral law, also.

I guess we may have to agree to disagree on this subject. I don't believe, nor have I ever believed that being homosexual is a choice, not any more than being heterosexual is a choice. You can't "cure" being a gay. It's not a disease.

Thanks for putting up with my disagreement. I don't mean to be rude and I hope you didn't take it that way. :-)Mary Ellenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07835150057881066641noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36003957.post-1496391188834776452009-12-08T14:53:02.190-06:002009-12-08T14:53:02.190-06:00While I agree that bullying should be discouraged ...While I agree that bullying should be discouraged I don't see any reason to bring sexual orientation into any training involving children so young.

Furthermore, in the zeal to stop all bullying we need to make sure an otherwise laudatory response isn't needlessly made because someone cried "wolf" to further their own cause/agenda.

Since the greater emphasis of such programs since the Columbine shootings, I've looked askance at anti-bullying programs. Maybe it's because of seeing misuse of the Navy's Equal Opportunity Program, but I've come to believe there are truly two sides to every story. Quite often supposed "oppressors" are anything but that and all too often otherwise levelheaded folks cheerfully crucify the innocent in the name of "fairness" and "justice".

Thanks for stopping by.Subvethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13523683273450353313noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36003957.post-44753953556862668512009-12-08T09:54:35.086-06:002009-12-08T09:54:35.086-06:00I don't think there should be any bullying...e...I don't think there should be any bullying...ever, and that includes bullying or discrimination against children who are members of a family with a gay relationship. Hate is hate and it must stop.

The subject of bullying is very close to my heart...and it's important for children to know that they cannot abuse anyone, emotionally or physically, because they do not understand or agree with their lifestyle.Mary Ellenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07835150057881066641noreply@blogger.com
